Hover Box Blurred Image

Post by m48tx »

This is probably more a question that a bug. When I point to some images, the hover box image is blurred (even though the thumbnail is created properly.) This behavior appears to occur only with JPG images. I can open a blurred image with ThumbsPlus, save the image with 100% quality and the hover box image is now nice and crisp. I have attached images to show this behavior. Attachment 1 shows a crisp hover box image. Attachment 2 shows a blurred hover box image. Attachment 3 shows a crisp hover box image. Between attachment 2 and 3, I converted the image with ThumbsPlus. Any ideas?

Does not happen here. :?

FYI, the HoverBox does not use any thumbnails but creates the image afresh on the fly.

I understand the hoverbox creates image on the fly. But this is my question: why is the thumbnail crisp but the hoverbox is blurred? I have attached an image that blurs in the hoverbox. Can you try it on your system?

Mine is crisp at 260x260 and larger, and blurred at smaller sizes. Same at your end?

PS: Well, I think that impression was just an artefact of that particular image.

Please forgive my dumbness. By 260x260, do you mean thumbnail size? I have my thumbnails set at 256x231 (thumbnail is crisp). I set my thumbnails to 260x260 and the hover box image is still blurred.

Try to untick this: Configuration | Preview | Preview | Image preview | Auto-rotate preview

Damn you are smart!! Wow. Hover box is now crisp. How did you come to that recommendation?

Well, I have a good seat to look right into the code.

The thing here is: Win7 and earlier apparently do not auto-rotate JPEGs (see viewtopic.php?p=149800#p149800), therefore I use some other method here that *can* but is otherwise inferior. If you turn off "Auto-rotate preview" I can go for the good method.

Code boy at work! Thanks for taking the time to solve this for me. Once again, your support is stellar. The program ain't bad either. ;)

Unticking Auto-rotate preview, that was a great advice Don !
It worked for me too, look at these pics from the 60's, hovered :

When Auto-rotate preview is ticked :

When Auto-rotate preview is UNticked :

Big difference, isn't it ?
Thanks Don (not forgetting OP who created this thread)
