Raw View with Extract text set - length display

Post by graham »

I am a little curious regarding the value shown in the Raw View header line which starts Offset and then number/total and length of text. The display does not show values for every line. By way of example, if I use the XYPlorer catalog.dat file then in my case I have 43 text lines but only 36 of those can show details in the header. The last 7 lines do not display their length as only the line at the top of the window is shown thus any below this on the the last window are not considered.

It would seem better to show the length when the line is highlighted.

Is this a feature then what purpose is the length display especially when the latter entries on a window (except the top one) are not considered?

hmm weird, cause here it works fine. I mean I can put the very last line on top of the Raw View, ie. showing as first line in view and thus the info for that line are indeed shown as expected.

I tried a bunch of files, including my own catalog.dat, and every time when I scroll all the way down the last line is put on top! :?

Thanks for testing but I don't understand how you can get the last line of the scroll list on the top! Well not in every case. In my example using catalog.dat there are 43 lines displayed in several windows and it just happens that the last line is on the last line of the window and the scroll bar is fully down.

The header reads Offset Text 36/43 7bytes total 1,093 bytes

Of course the size of the window affects things but when I made the window taller then the mis-match gets worse. I tried the udc.dat file which has just 3 entries in my case and the

header read Offset Text 1/3 31bytes total 105 bytes

As far as I can see it is impossible to get a length value on the header for lines 2 & 3 because the header is derived from the top-most item.

never mind - just something to fill the space whilst Don perfects things that really matter.

Well, just as I on't understand how you can't! It just scrolls all the way there for me:

Even if there's only 3 lines extracted, and all three are shown on the panel, I'll get a scrolbar so that I can put the second & third lines on top.

OK problem solved thanks to your image. You had wrap checked, I didn't and so was unable to manipulate the scroll bar.

Thanks another thing learned. That said it would be nice if on highlighting the item the header change to reflect the number and length. Trivia, I know.

Well, this is at least one bug.
(1) why does wrap has an influence on the scrolling? :?
(2) wrap does not work at all! It prints on top of each other! :(

I'll take care later...
