Hi, new user here. I have been playing with XY for a couple of days and so far I like what I see.
I've searched the forum and scoured the ini file but could not find answers to the following quesitons:
- is there a way to, when selecting an item from the catalog, to have the tab name be the caption from the item's catalog configuration?
- is there a way to, when selecting an item from the catalog, to have the tab be locked by default?
Off topic ?: I've seen some screenshots where the toolbar is beside the address field and the tabs are on a row of their own - is that a beta feature or is it possible to get the configuration with the normal version?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
dfg

Re: Catalog questions
Hi and welcome to the world of XY! I've only got a min now so will only address this item...I believe the layout you want is via Window>Layout>Toolbar & Addr/Tabs (3rd one in list)...this is what I use.Indy wrote:Off topic ?: I've seen some screenshots where the toolbar is beside the address field and the tabs are on a row of their own - is that a beta feature or is it possible to get the configuration with the normal version?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Hi and welcome to XYplorer,
catalog questions:
1) As of now there is no feature to name the tab to caption of the catalog, but i like your wish.
2) This feature also doesnt exist, but you can always lock a tab by ctrl+L. But would be good to know from you how this feature could be useful. Just wondering if I will ever use it.

Re: Catalog questions
First off, welcome aboard! No, the tabs always show the path, I believe. And we need as much path as possible for clickable breadcrumbs, which are on the roadmap.Indy wrote:Hi, new user here.

Oh, wait a minute, they're not on the roadmap anymore I coulda sworn they were last time I looked
This one isn't a big desire. I just noticed that every item I opened using the catalog I ended up locking...but I'm still trying to integrate XY with my workflow.serendipity wrote: 2) This feature also doesnt exist, but you can always lock a tab by ctrl+L. Re: Catalog questions
You can rename the tabs to an arbitrary name by right clicking on the tab and selecting "Rename Tab...". That feature seems to be for display only (since clicking on a catalog item of the same path will bring the "renamed" tab into focus) so it shouldn't break the feature you mentioned.panorama wrote:No, the tabs always show the path, I believe.
What is this mysterious breadcrumb feature? Is that some kind of interactive history trail type thing?
Thanks,
dfg

Re: Catalog questions
It's not a mystery if one reads the wiki for it!Indy wrote:What is this mysterious breadcrumb feature? Is that some kind of interactive history trail type thing?
See http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/index.php/Na ... Breadcrumb
I'd suggest you spend a bit of time reading in/around/thru the wiki...it's a GREAT resource!
BTW, I hope you've been impressed by the speed of our replies! We can't guarantee that always, but with the various time zones represented, one of us is often here...

Re: Catalog questions
Sorry, what I meant was the tab always show its path name when it's first opened, via catalog or anything else, then you can rename it. But the re-name doesn't stick if the tab is closed then you reclick your catalog entry to re-open it.Indy wrote:You can rename the tabs to an arbitrary name by right clicking on the tab and selecting "Rename Tab...". I have glanced at the wiki but have not delved into it yet... I will though, thank you for the link. My first impression when I read panorama's post was that it was a feature planned for future development so I didn't think to look it up...j_c_hallgren wrote:It's not a mystery if one reads the wiki for it!![]()

I did notice this. Anymore, before I even evaluate a tool to see if it meets my needs I check to make sure it is actively developed, has an active user base and has some type of forum where the users/developers can interact. XY certainly exceeds on all 3 points.j_c_hallgren wrote: BTW, I hope you've been impressed by the speed of our replies! FYI, what brought me to look at XY was the tabs - it matches my workflow (several open and mostly static explorer windows open all of the time with no interaction between them) pretty well. What will probably seal the deal for me is little features like the keyboard shortcuts "Copy Item Path(s)" and "Copy Here with Suffix Date...".

Breadcrumbs exist and are a great navigation tool. Right click on tab icon (or hit ctrl bckspace) and you'll see.
What is/was on the roadmap is the "clickable" variety of breadcrumbs where you click on an element of the path displayed in the tab to go to that location, ie tab header shows C:\Perso\MusicStuff\Instruments\sax - You can click on Perso or MusicStuff or Instruments and climb back up to that folder instantly
And do have a look at the Wiki and then thank Mr Jacky for all his great work there!

Re: Catalog questions
I trimmed the roadmap a bit to make it look more makeable. Don't worry, nothing is lost, I have a heap of additional roadmaps in my backyard...panorama wrote:First off, welcome aboard! Which tells me that you are like me. These are among my most used XY features. Together with "Copy/Move Here to New Subfolder...". Welcome!Indy wrote:What will probably seal the deal for me is little features like the keyboard shortcuts "Copy Item Path(s)" and "Copy Here with Suffix Date...".
