catalog contents disappeared

Post by jcmn »

Today when opening XYPlorer my catalog contents disappeared, it was just cleaned. What can be done to recover all my folders and files in catalog and what can be the source of this strange issue?

Strange, this never happened here.

The catalog is contained in the file catalog.dat.

If something like this happens, you should exit the app without saving! It might be a display issue, it might be a data loss... (in the latter case saving might overwrite the catalog.dat with the wrong data)

General remark: Before something like this happens you should of course regularly backup any data that you have put work into!

These files are all very small and should be backed up for better sleep:
XYplorer.ini
ks.dat
catalog.dat
servers.dat

It is a big advantage of XYplorer that you can backup the settings (apps using the registry cannot) -- so use this advantage!

This is strange because the catalog.dat file seems to have all the paths.

I must say that my PC is in a LAN and today we have some issues mainly some network drives were not available. Could be any relation with this?

I also must say that now everytime I open XYP it opens always in the same folder and not in the last opened folder as before.

You seem to have read/write problems with the ini/dat files then. Maybe you lack some rights...?

And I loose those rights in one day? I'm going to backup the files and rebuild the catalog and see what happen when the network is running ok.

I definitively loose the catalog. Now I suspect that it could be due to changes in font types. Could it be?

I have no further answers to this. And I don't like this.
You advise to backup regularly but I didn't know until today what files should be backed up.
XYPlorer could have a backup automatic feature?

Let's first solve this case.

The catalog is okay, then you open XY, no catalog shown, then you close XY, and then the file catalog.dat disappears??
