File list resorted when dragging a file into the folder

Hi!

When I'm dragging a file from the desktop into XYplorer, it automatically resorts the file list. This should not be done, because I need the file order to remain the same (so that I can create an M3U after renaming all files).

When I drop a file into the file list, I'd expect it to appear at the position where I dropped it and the order of the rest of the files should not be changed, resorted, etc.

This looks like a wish to me, not a bug.

No, it's a bug, because the list is not supposed to be resorted automatically.

Who else expects this? I never heard of this as a common standard behavior in file managers. So it's a wish.

Ok, so call it a wish - anyway it should be implemented, at least as an option. To me it seems more logical that an item dropped into the file list should appear at the dropped position and no re-sorting should take place. If I want the list sorted, I could hit F5 to refresh it, etc.

This kind of feature has already been requested. Thats why admin calls it a wish and not bug. Its more of a flexible list where one can arrange files the way they want.
I wanted such a feature because of renaming purpose, where i could arrange the files to be renamed in a particular order and rename them.

Exactly! Maybe the developer could treat this with high priority, because it's really an annoying problem if the list gets resorted by itself. I just encountered this situation:

I was renaming MP3s of an album in a folder. The names start with the track number, so they are in correct order. But I don't want the track number in the name of the songs, but I prefer to create a m3u list for the title order. So I started renaming the files and at some point I started one of the MP3s (by accident, because pressing TAB during renaming doesn't move to the next file so I have to click each file several times (to select it, to enter renaming mode, to select the cursor position)). This opened Media Player which creates some strange files in the same folder. That of course caused the files to be resorted and the original title order was lost - very annoying, because I wanted to use Ctrl-Shift-P to create my m3u list (which only works correctly, of course, if the file order doesn't change during renaming)!

I'd think I've rarely, if ever, run into this situation, so my only input to the debate is: How does Win Expl handle it? That, to me, being the default standard would determine whether it's a wish or a bug...

The same thing applies to the TAB issue...

well, maybe one can rename in the order you select it. If i have files 01-10 and if i select 0-3 first, 8-10 next and 4-7 last, then F2 can rename in that order. But the best bet i see is to allow flexible-sort. I too dont come across is this very often, but when i do, i wish i could drag-drop and rename.

Being pretty busy lately I haven't had time to search & check, but I would have said (guessed?) something like this, a "user-defined" sort order on List, was planned with the famous Drop Stack...

If so, you could - even temporarly - create a DS of your folder, then re-order it as you wish while working on it, having the order you want for copying info to clipboard, renaming operations, etc And when done, just delete the DS !

DS won't happen tomorrow, but I could relatively quick add something to the Catalog (where you can have your custom sort order already!): "Rename (Special) all Items in Category". There a lot of nice plans for the Catalog... this will happen all together pretty soon...

Well.. I just don't use the Catalog in "DS-light" kinda way, doesn't fit me much, somehow. But a RS for a Category could be a little thing to have people wait, I guess.

Won't beat the great & powerful thing that DS will be though! Seems to me this will be a huge improvement in a daily life of file management, with all the possibilities it'll provide... Anyways.
