Are you using the Win 10 Creators Update? It has a problem with MTP access that hopefully gets fixed soon.

Low quality previews are no surprise. Generally MTP is a limited (and cursed) protocol from the darkest times of MS. What works and what not is mentioned in the Help file.

Now that's strange. I even tested it again (Win 8.1) and of course it works fine here.

I cannot see how something is recognized as "JPEG Image" and the extension is not shown. :veryconfused:

PS: Idea  You have hidden extensions in File Explorer! Turn them on and it will work...

Is it possible to show extensions independent of the explorer setting?

Don't think so. With Portable Devices I can only dish out what's coming out of Explorer's k-itchen.

As this result is not expected: maybe you should, be it on XY start, or on first access of a portable device, check this setting, and if neccessary warn the user?

hate to bring up comparisons, but I've found that some other file managers are able to show these file extensions irrespective of explorer setting. Are they using their own mtp handling code?
