Observations re 17.70

Post by aurumdigitus »

Hover Box is a handy gizmo to have available. Any chance it could be extended to other file types? Would especially like to have it for PDF's.

It seems Keyboard Navigation via Live Filter Box is directed at typers. Well, as a mouser have already come to like it a lot. :appl:

I think HB is too small for PDFs. You cannot read anything at that size. For that you would need a much larger size. We already have that with MDBU.

Your analysis was accurate. Scratch that idea.

Will keep trying though. :eh:

found the reason: I have added pdf to previewed formats - image files
Don, please leave it that way, thx. w/o pdf hover box would only be half the box it is.

one little bug: hover box does not honor the checked state of the item in the image files group - as long as pdf is in there (checked or unchecked) it does show it in hover box. but I don't mind atm.

Thanks autocart, I added pdf's to the image file listing and pdf files preview just fine in HoverBox and there doesn't appear to be any downsides elsewhere in XY.

Don, as autocart stated, I think this is well worth while. Above you mentioned pdf's being to small to read. That may be true in a few cases but you do have a much better idea on what the pdf file contains. In many cases a pdf file may have a title page (instruction manuals and pamphlets) which displays just fine and you can very easily see what the file is. I have a great deal of sheet music in pdf format and it really helps to see the notes and be able to say, "oh yeah, I remember that song".

OK, I'll think about it.

One problem here is that thanks to Adobe there is always a percentage of users with PDF problems, so this feature would generate a heavy support load.

Well it already works. It was just a matter of adding the pdf extension to the list of image previews as it already was for Office files under Previewed Formats. So, I'm not sure you have to do, or should do, anything. If other users want to take advantage of it, they can add pdf extension to the Image File listing.

Adding PDF to previewed formats was the first trick invoked before authoring this Thread. Alas it does NOT work here. :(

(But MDBU does.)

Sure, but it's not exactly cool to fake PDF to be an image.

(BTW, I admit one can see more than I thought at this size, so that's okay. Remains the Adobe problem, that will be harder to fix...:) )

Sorry aurumdigitus, I didn't realize you had already added PDF extension to the Image files in Previewed Formats and it didn't work for you.
