HoverBox™

Post by admin »

Here's a preview of a sensational upcoming feature: HoverBox™

Recently the combination of relentless power coding plus heavy guitar strumming (power chording) in the breaks gave me a funny feeling in my right wrist. So -- necessity is the mother of invention -- I'd like to reduce my clicks. Being a photographer and MDBU afficionado as well, I'm particularly interested in seeing previews of photos without a single click. Zero Click Preview. (Mental note: Potential Buzz Word)

The HoverBox™ will do exactly that: pop a box on hovering the icon of a file (delay, size, color configurable), containing a thumbnail of the image (if any), plus some basic file and image info. The box will auto-disappear when the mouse moves on.

Not sure yet if I will do it also for non-images -- normal File Info Tips would be enough for those, right?

Hope you'll like it,
Don

It will be great experience! wishing non-images will be supported as well
BTW, this program works well with XYplorer http://www.crystalsoft.it/en/products/w ... g-files-9l

PS:a toggle button for fast turn On/Off will be appreciated

So this program probably hooks into the File Info Tips, interesting. So it does not work if you untick "Configuration | File Info Tips | Show file info tips", right?

You mention hovering over an icon to activate. Do you intend to have this hoverbox feature when hovering over an image thumbnail as well when the user is in a thumbnail view? When hovering over a thumbnail would the MDBU image pop up instead of a hoverbox? Or possibly when in a thumbnail view, the hoverbox would display only over the filename not the thumbnail.

I could see myself desiring a hover time that might be different (less time) when in a thumbnail view since you are in that view to look at photos. When in other views though the hover time desired might be a greater.

Keep strumming...

The HB will be optionally replace the File Info Tips (so you cannot have both at the same time): whenever File Info Tips would pop you can have the HB pop instead (same delay). So in thumbs view that would happen when you hover the caption, not the image.

Context specific delay: possible but let's keep these refinements to phase 2.

how about speed? all this will require resampling of images which is bot fast, especially for some big, huge photos.

HBs are not as big as MDBUs. They won't take longer than generating a single thumbnail. No problem. OK, huge photos might take a second (depending on your system), but even that is not a desaster.

It's really a great thing. Yes, please - do expand it to support text files.

With so many improvements on previewing tech, wouldn't it be time to make it easier the handling of 'previewed formats' category & types? A basic CTRL+A, [space key] to check boxes, an 'invert selection' box would suffice, Live Filtering a plus.

For the time being, there's the cumbersome .ini manipulation: Black List for Previewed Formats, which is good if you know it exists...

Total nit-pick: Its position relative to the mouse should match that of the info tips.

Info tips show above/below, HB shows to the side.

Hi Don, nice new feature, HoverBox. At the moment though, my Right click on thumbnail stopped working (i.e., On right mouse down). Set with Stay up and Fit to screen both checked. I right click on the thumbnail and get an hourglass for a couple of seconds - no blow up.

The left click blow up is working when I have the setting for popup stays up until mouse is released is checked (which is my normal setting). When I uncheck that setting though, one left click runs my associated program, ImageEye instead of MDBU. It's been awhile since I had that setting unchecked, but that doesn't sound right?
