Another Feature or Flaw

Post by pat55 »

PSD file Icons in low resolution only
Suddenly without changing any setting that I am aware of - many PSD files will only display F11 in a very low resolution similar to the attached screen capture.
What may cause this?

A codec is needed to preview PSD files. Only you can know what happened to the codec that stopped working for you. Did you install anything recently?

I did install SumatraPDF.
Then again we are all victims of M$ updates for the latest Win 10.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that
I deleted my google account history and now I must sign in constantly - in the past I stayed signed in.
I thought it was all safe to delete. I do not want to roll time back and experiment in that way.

My PDFs thumbnails (icons) display just fine - except in XY! That is a known bug.

SOLUTION:
FastPictureViewer Codec Pack ($10) - First had to uninstall it using the
installer option. (Zero support by these birds)
The repair and just install 'on top' of did NOT work.

Did a new install and used the 'order#' that is about a year old and all
was well in XY and M$ File Explorer.

Note - the FastStone Image Viewer (free ware) that I constantly make
reference to as a HI - quality program - NEVER FAILED in spite of this
being the flagship free program - they apparently have protected it with an included
no fee codec.

Admin,
Your initial informed guess was correct that it was a codec problem.

How about putting the 'can't drag and drop' if manual sorting is on in the
configuration file - on the front burner? Yes you can have both - see
FastStone as just one example.

Thanks again,
pat

:) Good you solved it. (FastPictureViewer Codec Pack is also what I use here.)

In my impression manual sorting is not as popular as you might think. So the front burner is not the fitting place for this wish.
:!: But note that there is a dedicated toolbar button to quickly toggle manual sorting on and off. Might be useful to you.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
One or two problems remain: for the PSD files
Now that the codec works again - how can I force an update to thumbnails that are 'small' as in the attacment?
I tried Refresh selected etc NONE did the job. Moving the files to a different folder and then returning back to the first folder does nothing.
I just hate to do something drastic such as deleting a cache - then create an overload that slows the PC to a crawl.

I have a similar problem with PDF files... I think it was Highend that discussed it with you - about a fix for the thumbnails.
Has that been done yet? Same solution?

This works - just an extra step. Thanks for mentioning. There really ought to be a list of such bugs/problems - perhaps with a priority assigned???
