Is there currently a simple way to "go back" to the previous two (2) locations?
I like the Ctrl+Alt+F7 and use it constantly from the icon - but so often it would be helpful to cycle through the last three items.
Has this been considered and rejected previously?

Not that I'm aware of, but the Recent Locations toolbar button menu will help you get to further previous locations. Or you can use Go > Recent Locations ... where you can search for a previous location.
