I have been experiencing a strange thing with file selection. It's a situation where it's as if I am Shift-Selecting files. It acts as if I select a file or folder, and am holding down shift and selecting another file several up or down.. and it selects that and everything in between. Keep in mind I am not holding shift.
At first I thought it was something with AutoHotKey.. but I have disabled that and it still happens.
I am running XYplorer 17.10 (Registered)
I installed a standalone version of XYplorer 15.xx.. and I could not duplicate the issue.
Here is how I duplicate it.
1. create a new folder - step down into that folder
2. create at least 6 new folders or txt files. Named whatever you like.
3. Shift-DEL one or more of them.
4. Then when I select around by clicking on the files with the mouse its as if the shift is still down and I am getting multiple selections.
This happens on existing files/folders.. but I do the temp files and folders so I don't trash real things.
I can get it to go away by tapping the SHIFT key several times.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I can't get it to happen outside of XYplorer. -- it may be a new thing since 17.xx.

Cannot reproduce this.
What happens if you use a fresh XY instance?
::fresh; {ENTER}
in the address bar

Re: Selecting Files - as if SHIFT is held down
I could not get it to happen on the fresh XY instance.
Very interesting indeed.

Re: Selecting Files - as if SHIFT is held down
Now something similar but strange in the Fresh XY instance.
I also tried it in my original XY instance.
I create a handful of folders.
Select of some of them. Ctrl-D to duplicate them.
I make quite a few folders.. at least 10-20 I'd say.
In this situation it seemed like more folders caused the issue.
I select several of them.. Ctrl-D..
The duplicate folders are created with the -01
the original files are still selected..
and now when I select around its as if the CTRL key is selected and I am adding more files to my selection.

Maybe check the state of "Tools/Customize List/Sticky Selection"

Re: Selecting Files - as if SHIFT is held down
Cannon reproduce that either, sorry.
That's off in a fresh instance by default (and it has no keyboard shortcut so that you can't activate it without selecting it manually)Maybe check the state of "Tools/Customize List/Sticky Selection"

Re: Selecting Files - as if SHIFT is held down
Its very strange. I've been using XYplorer for over a year with no issues.. and this showed up a little while ago.
Its an annoyance right now..I still use it all day long.
I've toggled some of those Customize List settings..but no difference yet. I'll keep trying a few different things.
Thanks!

Re: Selecting Files - as if SHIFT is held down
I may have solved this.
I had to uncheck File Operations -> File Operations -> Enable Background Processing.
I turned off Delete specifically (under Apply to...) and that worked better.
But then it still happened when I copied files.
so I just disabled Enable Background Processing completely.
I have yet to see what sort of effect not having Enable Background Processing will have on my workflow. I move a lot of files around.
For fun, I just tried a fresh XY.. (::fresh;).. and found that delete was not enabled under background processing.
I enabled it.. and now the fresh XY does it too. I suspect it would have done it if I had tried the copy... but I was just trying deletes at the time.
There was additional security software and policies pushed to my laptop a few months ago
.. maybe that is the cause of all this.
