Ouch. Yes, I've had that happen to me as well. It's quite painful.

This is a problem with many Alt+Letter combos. It's VB+OS-related. The only workaround is to choose another shortcut.

What you can do (in case you are really a hardcore keyboarder): hide the whole menu (Alt+Up). Then the beep goes away.
