Copy and Move option
Copy and Move option
In addition to Replace, Skip and Compare - I really need one called "Increment" name.
The compare is just too painful when 99% of the time I only need to increment.
(I use other software to find true duplicates regardless of attached names.)
Is there a quick and good solution or setting that will do this

Use XYCopy.

Re: Copy and Move option
Sammay, just to show the smartass I am:
XYcopy is there for background processing, be it of Shell Copy or of Custom Copy.
Custom Copy is also in XYplorer.exe, no need for XYcopy.exe.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The attached is the best configuration so far :-(
In either copy or move 'conflict' I am looking for an automatic screen that shows an icon +info on a screen
that has the following -one click- options. REPLACE, RENAME, SKIP and CANCEL followed by an option box DO FOR ALL.
This is done very well in a hi-quality 100% free software called Faststone Image Viewer ( they also have a dirt cheap capture software
that works on Utube or anything else on a screen). I would just love to see or have this in XYP.

Re: Copy and Move option
Actually in that shot, you haven't activated custom copy at all, so all those custom copy options wouldn't apply. Check the "Use Custom Copy" box.
Then you'll find XYCopy has all those features you're looking for: [/size]
The Actions dropdown has multiple Overwrite options, a host of Rename options (that can rename either the new or the existing file), and skip. And you can see the "Do this also for the next collisions" checkbox.
Note that Skip button simply skips the one current transfer action, and doesn't apply to next ones.

Re: Copy and Move option
Sammay and whoever else may be out there...
Which is better - the screen on the right or left.
Please show me and the world which XY settings would get the screen on the left.
Sure you have a lot of options - just not the correct ones IMHO.
We should all be looking for fewer clicks ... right?

Re: Copy and Move option
Sorry, no option in XYplorer will get you the screen on the left. As you said, that's part of FSViewer. Unfortunately, XYplorer is not FSViewer.

Re: Copy and Move option
But Custom Copy gives you something quite similar:

Great - at least some of the answer.
What setting or script may you be using. Can you post a copy please?
There are no doubt many of us "new" xyp users that will benefit.

Re: Copy and Move option
The answer was in Sammay's first reply to you:
Then you posted screenshots showing your configuration and Sammay pointed out that you had not checked the most important of those three:SammaySarkar wrote:Use XYCopy.

Actually - those settings just give an unanticipated overwrite!
I like to think that XYP can do far better and with minimal effort.
Am I alone in thinking that way?

Then you've previously modified the configuration options shown when clicking the Configure... button under Custom Copy Operations.pat55 wrote:Actually - those settings just give an unanticipated overwrite!
By default it is set like so:
From the default configuration all that had to be done to get the comparison screen was to enable the Use Custom Copy option - all the other options mentioned here do not need changed. (Unless you want to fine tune the behavior further.)pat55 wrote:I like to think that XYP can do far better and with minimal effort.

Re: Copy and Move option
So there was another screen involved - I apologize for not being a mind reader :-)
That got me some result.
In addition to your disclosed settings I also checked:
1.
Preserve item date
2.
Safe overwrite
3.
Skip verification on hard disks.
I can only guess at number two ????
Number three - I have no clue what is involved or why it is here - Clarify please.
I do appreciate your help.
