So far I think I might actually be able to use Xyplorer as a fantastic solution to quickly review images on my sdcard before importing to lightroom. This can provide a rapid time to get to developing. Lightroom (even with SSD) takes a while to build previews, so instead of importing with minimal previews, culling, and then building previews, I thought about using Xyplorer for this.
The first is comparison. Lightroom uses a optional view that whatever you select on the "grid" will show up on a side by side comparison, almost like a virtual table. This is cool, because it's not a A vs B, you can keep adding images and it just rearranges them to review.
This could be really cool if the preview pane maybe was able to do this, and receive a mouse click on it to focus on one image.

This might extend to actually letting you select 2 text files and see a diff comparison in the preview pane. It might be a fundemental difference and be a "compare pane" instead.
The other flag/reject I've solved by using a label and label shortcut to "flag" or "reject" images. Maybe there is a better way, but it's all I could figure out so far.

Re: Lightroom user feedback, comparing and culling images
Hi,
no such plans at the moment. Might be just a little too much for a file manager.
But note that after your post I have added something related -- Permanent Custom Sort Order:
