What about simply "Wide Info Panel", implying the the unselected state is the non-wide standard?j_c_hallgren wrote:Also, I'd suggest possibly instead of "Wide/Narrow" to use "Wide/Standard", since narrow implies to me an even smaller width...

Any reference to left panel would definitely be confusing since there is not a left panel - it's a tree. Left panel would imply that there are two panels, as well as a tree, i.e. it's a dual panel display.
I hardly ever use the high tree (or whatever it's going to be called). I need the full width (and usually full height) of the info panel for file viewing. However, I don't mind what the default setting is as long as I can easily change it.
That's my tuppence worth. Continue with your battery recharging Donald, you deserve it. Mind you, I'm also a workaholic and find it difficult to relax.

re 'XY infor bar': I'd suspect if any of us XY groupies were in Don's neighborhood at some time, we could arrange a quick/temporary version of that!

Nice new Version! Just 2 small things:
1. Within the "Customize Toolbar" dialog the "Show/Hide Info Panel" button is just called "Show Info Panel".
2. I think the navigation panel on the "Show/Hide Navigation Panel" icon should be marked grey like the info panel on the "Show/Hide Info Panel" icon. At the moment the icon is a little bit meaningless.
And I think the grey of all these icons should be a little bit darker.

Haven't tried the latest betas yet, but in reading release notes, saw the item about icon switch...which made me wonder: I currently have the toolbar icons for High-Tree, Max-Min IP, LastSz-Min IP, and Show-Hide IP in that sequence, and the High-Tree stood out as it was only one with IP gray not being full width...if that icon now became the Show-Hide, then shouldn't the Max-Min and LastSz-Min ones also not have a full width gray IP? (but IF so, then it'll be hard to tell diff as amount of gray is quite small change between those three...which makes full width IP gray useful even though it's not typical setup) And thus the Show-Hide Nav panel would only have that panel in gray to make it unique?
If this has already been addressed, I didn't read it as such.

After seeing the newer icons, I'll agree with peterbonge that the gray on these should be just a tad darker, as with less of the icon being shaded due to narrower IP area, it makes it harder to see the difference, at least for us with age 50+ eyes! Doesn't need to be that much darker...just a "smidge"...
Or alternatively, maybe IF at least the separator lines between the areas on icons could be darker to make it easier to see...using the border on the "Views" icon as example of a line that could be used...

I think it depends on the monitor settings. Because the grey and the white are very well discernable here. Maybe you play with your gamma settings...j_c_hallgren wrote:After seeing the newer icons, I'll agree with peterbonge that the gray on these should be just a tad darker, as with less of the icon being shaded due to narrower IP area, it makes it harder to see the difference, at least for us with age 50+ eyes! Or are there more users that say the grey should be darker??

I checked my gamma settings...they are (and have been for years) set at defaults and the histogram shows as straight line...and it's only in these tiny icons where the area that differs is small enough (a few pixels, right?) that it's hard to tell the difference between the three, especially Max and Last...admin wrote:I think it depends on the monitor settings. That's why I suggested making a darker border for the separator lines...that would help without affecting the rest of the gray area.

Well, I personally have no problem seeing what is gray or what is white, but my eyes are goodadmin wrote:Or are there more users that say the grey should be darker??
I only have one, so I never actually look for the gray part, since this icon has nothing to do with the others on my TB. But for someone with more than one of those icons that are quite alike, if only for their gray parts, then I'd agree that a darker gray as the one used on the right of the Views button might be a good thing.

Okay, if you have all five of those quite similar buttons on your toolbar, it's not easy to distinguish them. But I don't see how making them all a bit darker would help here.jacky wrote:Well, I personally have no problem seeing what is gray or what is white, but my eyes are goodadmin wrote:Or are there more users that say the grey should be darker??Seriously though, it could be quite hard to distinguish the two I think, especially if you actually have more than one of those on your TB.

Well, I think it could be easier to distinguish for example "Last/Min" and "Max/Min", since the white row on the top for "Last/Min" would appeat more "visible", as there would be more constrast with a darker gray than currently.admin wrote:But I don't see how making them all a bit darker would help here. They would still look very similar...

Part of the problem may also be my height (I'm 6'-9" tall!) and how I use my laptop...It's often in my lap while in an easy chair or on a hassock (foot stool) when not in lap...thus, I'm looking at LCD from an angle...It's not straight on, but more from above a bit (like in lap, my eyes are about 6-8 inches above top of screen), and thus colors fade a bit...when I looked at LCD from more straight on (hard to do as then it's too far away to read), the current gray is a bit better...
Maybe the divider/separator between the areas (IP/Nav/list) in these icons could be made blue (1 pixel) as the current border is??? Ok, so that doesn't reflect actual screen but it would really isolate the gray from the white within icon.
I have 4 of the 5 icons showing currently, and likely will add the 5th...
