"..." in the filelist-rows
Heidihoo!
English:
Is it possible to deactivate the "..." in the filelist-rows? If not, please realize it.
Deutsch:

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
Hi Dani,
wenn Du die Zeit nicht sehen willst, dann schalte sie doch einfach aus. *Dann* kannst Du die Spalte auch schmaler einstellen...

ohne Punkte wäre es ideal
English:
Normally, i need the "Day.Month.Year" of the time, not more. Sometimes i need the rest of the time.
Of the file-attributes i need just the first 4. For both rows the points are überflüssig and space-verschwendung.
--------------------
Deutsch:

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
Since you're both quite capable to use English why not stick to it for the sake of all the non-German speaking members on this forum?

"..." in the filelist-rows
English:
Again me. After some seconds of usage every user of the program knows, that the contents of the cells are longer than they are shown. The "..."-help is for users without a brain.
-------
Deutsch:

Hah!
Being a brainless users, so far as I can figure, maybe @Dani you might want to enable Menu > Tools > Customize List > Autoooosize columns.

"..." in the filelist-rows
@ SammaySarkar: You have not understood the problem. When the row is smaller than autosized, i see some points. I do not need them. Nobody need them.
@ PeterH: Hate is, to have a problem with the own brain.

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
This seems like a bad idea to me...
"Malicious Programs.txt" vs "Malicious Programs.txt..." vs "Malicious Programs.txt.exe"
If you don't want the time, format the date column properly by selecting No Time.
As for the attributes column I suggest using a custom column instead to customize the display.
I can't see a single 'Hide Ellipses' option for all columns as a realistic solution.
Which means it either needs to be only some columns (which?) or a setting for each column which is a lot of settings to squeeze in and where?
Maybe as a tweak but even then this just seems superfluous given the fact that No Time and custom columns exist and provide solutions.

"..." in the filelist-rows
The solution is easy.

The filename-row is dangerous, okay, and the fileextensions-row too. Is there any other dangerous row? The points are not needed in all three time-rows, the attributes, the file-types, bytes, all mp3-rows,...
You can let the points in the filename-row and the extension-row only, and delete the points from all others. And all is done. Options are not needed. Easy enough?
Or too easy?
My words about the time-row and the attributes-row were examples. Sometimes i want a time-row with "day.month", sometimes "day.month.year.hour". Sometimes i want an attributes-row with the first 4 attributes, sometimes the first 5. The row-formats are not the problem, the problem is the "..."-nonsense in some rows!
-----
"Custom columns" is too hard for me to understand. I have seen the option-window for that and i do not understand it. Can i configure a custom time-row without the points? How can i configure an attributes-row with the attributes-result "-H-D-" (with the "-", but without the characters after the 5th character)?

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
It's not just about danger - the ellipses convey information without which it can become difficult to distinguish between the actual end of the data and the end of the column.DaniHausmann wrote:The filename-row is dangerous, okay, and the fileextensions-row too. If the size column is not wide enough to show the units the numbers lose all meaning in flexible mode, and if it's not wide enough to show all of the digits then things are even worse. 3 could be 3 or 30, 3000, and so on.
So the fact of the matter is for many people, myself included, the ellipses are perhaps not needed but certainly wanted.
Which means without making it an option there will be no pleasing both of us.
Through INI tweaks XYplorer allows you to further customize the available options for the date and time formats. (Search for ListDateFormats in the INI file.) With a custom column you are free to format the date however you want.DaniHausmann wrote:My words about the time-row and the attributes-row were examples. I recommend starting here: http://www.xyplorer.com/release_13.90.php#CustomColumnsDaniHausmann wrote:"Custom columns" is too hard for me to understand. Some examples:Custom Attr is defined like so:And 'Attributes Property' like this:

"..." in the filelist-rows
Scripting is not easy, but good enough.
At last i need a script like this:
return SubStr(Report('(TimeLastAccess)',<cc_items>),WidthOfColumn);
Then i would have the time-columns without the points.
I will look for it in the online-help, that you have called. Thank you for your help!
------
English is not my language. A translator has told me now, that my "row" must be called "column" and my "column" must be called "row". Oh, man.
From now on i will make it right...

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
the return command fills a cell with a value, not with a width parameter^^
and it's <cc_item>, not <cc_items>
and it's <cc_item>, not <cc_items>

Re: "..." in the filelist-rows
The right solution for what?
Custom columns don't support (as normal columns) the suppression of the three dots when the width is too small...
