State of toolbar buttons

I've just activated the following toolbar buttons:
- Show/Hide Tree
- Show/Hide Catalog
- Show/Hide Info Panel

Now I've notived that the tree button is shown as pressed if the tree is hidden. The other ones are shown as pressed if the objects are shown...

The problem is somewhere else: the "Show/Hide Tree" is misnamed! The name is from the pre-Catalog era. What the function actually and intentionally does is "Show the list over the whole window width" (and hide tree and catalog to accomplish this). If "Show/Hide Tree" and "Show/Hide Catalog" would be independent (as has been wished quite often), you'd need to push 2 buttons to accomplish a wide list.

Should a rename it to "Wide List" (similar to "High Tree")?

No! That is just confusing. Better make a button "Show/Hide Left Panel", which hides the tree and (if open) also the catalog. You'd better not mix buttons to hide something with buttons to enlarge something. The main area is the files view. All other things around this area should just be hidden.

That's a good idea. Also "Show/Hide Left Panel" is technically correct. I'm not decided yet. In the meantime I changed the button graphics and the pushed state logic. So this little glitch is almost history.

The probably most correct term for it is "navigation pane". So: "Show/Hide Navigation Pane", would that make sense?? Obvious disadvantage: this term is not used in Help or Wiki.

Navigation Panel works fine for me! I was not thrilled with "Left Panel" as it was a bit vague and generic...

Changing the wiki shouldn't be that much of an issue...and adjusting the help file might only require a minor change or two...

While we are at it: the "High Tree" option needs a new name, too. I never liked the old one a lot, and now it's even worse than ever because it should be "High Navigation Panel" which, of course, sounds terrible. So, how should we name it? I'd also like to move the option to the main Window menu -- right now it is somewhat buried in submenu "Layout".

I've wondered about the terminology as well. To me, something like "Full height nav panel" makes more sense, but is clearly not concise...

Does anyone not use the "high tree" setting? I *much* prefer to have the full height of the window for my tree and catalog, and can't see any circumstance where I would not want those two to take up the full height.

I guess I'm wondering if that even needs to be a readily accessible option... I'm sure there must be folks out there that use the info panel full-width (perhaps on lower-resolution screens?) or this setting wouldn't even be there...

Hey, maybe the setting could be called called "Narrow Info Panel" or something like that...

I always thought I was too new to say anything, but the high tree was not "high", it was tall

I mean, high tree went lower on the screen (right down to the bottom), whereas "non high tree" was much higher (but not as tall) as it started where the preview panel ended;

"Tall/short navigation panel" or "Wide/Narrow info bar", that is the question?

Ja! (only: it's info panel, not info bar -- info bar to me sounds like something in the airport where you go to ask questions)

Summing up my state-of-the-feel:
- it could be called "Wide/Narrow Info Panel".
- the default should be narrow
- it should be located right under "Maximize/Minimize Info Panel"

Looks like a good solution to me!

Yup, that "high tree" terminology didn't quite make sense to me either, but it never bothered me enough to say so...

I have "high tree" set most all the time, but will turn it off occasionally for a couple of reasons:
1) To see a larger preview of images without using MDBU
2) To see full width (or wider view) of some (typically text) files in preview without having to use horizontal scrolling

Also, I'd suggest possibly instead of "Wide/Narrow" to use "Wide/Standard", since narrow implies to me an even smaller width...
and I do agree with moving it to main Window menu...but I use toolbar button to swap it, so no affect on me either way...
