Event 1000

Hi guys.

I've have had XY crash on me a several times in the last few minutes. It seems it does it when pasting a file into a subfolder after creating the subfolder. But, annoyingly, it doesn't crash every time, just sometimes. I haven't been able to find a pattern as yet.

The steps I followed to get the crash:
-> Right-click on a file and chose "cut".
-> In a different tab, navigate to a folder and create a new subfolder.
-> Double click on the new subfolder name.
-> Right-click the list view and choose "paste"...crash.

Windows gives me "this application has done something naughty and must be closed" message. The event viewer shows this:

Incidentally Dr Watson then jumps up and promptly dies too.

Previous versions do not crash?

No, previous versions did not seem to have this problem.

I downloaded the older version but I haven't had time to play with it much because I've had two sick kids to deal with

I did notice that with I tried to install the older build, the installer didn't replace the newer binary with the older one. Maybe it does a version or file age check?

Anyhow, I've been trying the latest beta (always!) and haven't noticed the problem as yet. I will keep an eye out for the problem and let you know if I come up with anything new.

Yep, it does. Simply choose another install path, or use the uninstall pack.

However, I'm quite sure that this weird error was some Windows thing, so don't look too hard.

I've been using the latest beta (6.10.0012) and now I can reproduce this crash on demand although it can do it at two different points of the process.

To reproduce:
1. right click a file in the LV and click "cut".
2. click the "new folder" toolbar button.
3. give the new folder a name "test". The new folder is auto-sorted into place in the LV.
4. double click on the new folder name to move inside the folder.
5. right-click the empty LV.

Now, this is the first point it can crash, however sometimes I get the context menu and then crashes when I click "paste".

Can anyone else see this? It does it everytime for me. I've tried two different machines my home machine and my work one both with XP SP2 Pro with the same result.

Update: after I get the crash message XY appears to hang for a while and Windows says that XY has stopped responding.

I have WindowsXP Pro SP2, too, and cannot reproduce it. Hm.

EDIT: anything special about the files? Overlong filenames or so?

No, there is nothing special about the files. I've been playing with word and pdf documents.

A couple of thoughts that may have nothing to do with anything:

Maybe it's the drive that the files are on. The problem occurs very consistently on my USB flash drive, but less often on my HDD.

It doesn't appear to occur if I use the toolbar buttons for cut and paste, but does seem to occur when I use the right-click context menu.

As long as you are the only one experiencing "event 1000" I can't spend more time on this currently, sorry.

I don't know if it's linked or not, I couldn't reproduce it myself, but I know someone who got XY crashing "regulary" when doing copy/paste operations, or using the ctxt menu to show the properties window.

What I think maybe "causing" this "instability", and for sure can make things way slower, is the ctxt menu on file/folder.
So I'd suggest to never right-click on a file unless you REALLY have to (ie. on a RAR, to get WinRAR's menuitems). Otherwise, XY has this great thing (that other file manager usually don't) that right-clicking on List (blank area) will NOT affect the current selection.
So to cut/copy files, select them, then right-click on a blank area on List; Works just as good, only it might be more stable (XY only), and it will most likely be way faster (since there are no external handlers, etc to take into consideration here).
