thank you Don. :) a little enchantment would be appreciated= save-flags from ::rtfm 'idh_scripting_comref.htm#idh_sc_savesettings'; would be wonderful to have, so one could decide what to save - this way even those not usually using "save settings" can use this feature for save catalog, tags, etc.

Hm, now you want just a little autosave? :) Why not save all?

no-no i'm just saying while you're at it. why?= 'cause initially i got interest in auto-save because of tabsets and tags are saved on exit, and i needed some more safety -had few times losses(blue screen, hard reset, hang ups).
plus, don't you think such little enchant would make it more versatile, after all there are a lot of XY user not using "save on exit" because exactly they don't want to "save everything".

add: yet i already managed to try tool from this topic and found it's ability to save by flags comfortable. that's another "why".

Well, let's give the new feature a little time. It will be easy to add that later...

For He's a Jolly Good Fellowwwwwwwww!
Which nobody can deny!
 8)

Thank you SO MUCH!!

Now, what do I need to do to gain permission to get post-reply notification emails? This is the first BB I've ever joined that the feature doesn't work for new users. I have all the settings enabled (which is strange it displays them if the software has no intention of sending me replies due to my "new" status). I've been a member of the forum for 2 months, but Xy for 10+ years since TrackerV3 days. Do I just need to make a certain number of posts?

Oh wow, way at the bottom. I'm not sure if that was there before or not. But I did get a PM from j_c_hallgren saying he fixed my account so it should be approved now. However I can't reply to his PM. It says "We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature."

What are the requirements I need to meet before I can use all the usual functions of the board?

Followup, when I submitted the above Reply, it said "This message has been submitted successfully, but it will need to be approved by a moderator before it is publicly viewable. You will be notified when your post has been approved.". So I think J_c_hallgren may have been incorrect when he said I should be good to go, I must still be a limited member.

It seems like the new Auto Save feature is only saving Settings, but not the Tabs locations etc, which for me is as important, if not more important, than the settings themselves.

I had assumed Auto Save would save everything - identical to hitting the Save button - but it only seems to save settings. Could it be updated to function identical to hitting the save button?

Thank you

Do you have this checked? Configuration > Startup & Exit > Include most-recently-used lists on save
Also look inside the "Apply to" button.
I think autosave respects these settings.

I had them all checked except "Tabsets", which if I understand Tabsets correctly, is something I never use. I've now checked Tabsets anyways just to see what happens.

It does exactly the same as if you'd manually click "Save Settings".

Please double check to verify this. I just lost everything literally 2 minutes ago, v16.10 on XP-32. Crashed, reopened it, and it's showing me Tabs and Recent Locations History from weeks ago. Stuff that very obviously is old, I'm 100.00% certain of this, hands down.

I continued to lose my Tab history data until I installed a tool from the beginning of this thread, named "XYplorer - Save Settings.ahk[|.exe]". That tool works perfectly. The only reason I lost my data just now is because I rebooted for the first time in several months, and forgot I hadn't added that AHK tool to my Startup folder.

Repro steps:
1. Open Xyplorer 16.10 to multiple Tabs in a single pane.
2. Choose a tab and navigate around a few folders.
3. Make note of the new folder you have left the Tab navigated to.
4. Wait X*2 minutes to ensure your Auto Save has performed itself. (X = your Auto Save interval setting)
5. Crash Xyplorer. (Perhaps by using "Process Hacker 2" > Right click Xyplorer.exe Process, Terminator, choose some method that will result in a crash, double click it. Or maybe even just Terminating Process with Task Manager will be just as good? Not sure.)
6. Reopen Xyplorer. Observe the folder restored to the foreground tab is not the same one from Step 3.

Autosave does not "perform itself". Check out the manual:
Autosave settings after this many minutes

Tick it to automatically save all settings after X minutes (allowed values are 1-9999), measured from the last time all settings were saved (whether automatically or manually).

Note that Autosave will not happen just by itself but is triggered by the following user actions if the specified number of minutes has passed in this moment:

· Changing location (you browse to some new folder).

· Tagging an item.

· OK-ing the Configuration dialog.
