Then use backupto? The quoting was more about why it doesn't work, not about the command to use

You can use backupto (with oncollision flags) and then delete the original files. This would be an overhead if you are moving them in the same drive as moveto wouldn't copy the bits, but just do some housekeeping chores whereas backupto will have to do it (and hence you would require atleast that amount of free space available)
