Problem with Networked Drive Accessibility in XYplorer

Post by cfguy100 »

Hi,

I am a HUGE fan of XYplorer. I currently have the program installed on 2 Windows PC computers (one still running Windows 7, the other Windows 8.1).

I have a networked external (USB) hard drive on a third computer, that I have successfully "mapped" (through the network) on the other 2 computers - giving the mapped external hard drive folders the same drive letter on each networked computer - e.g. D:\Documents on the external networked drive is mapped to the driver letter "P" on the other 2 computers on the network. This is successful in Windows Explorer (on each computer), but in XYplorer, one computer (the Windows 8.1 PC) looses the connection to the mapped networked drive, whereas on the other (the Windows 7 PC) it is never a problem in XYplorer. I have added the drive letter to the toolbar in XYplorer on each computer, and I checked the XYPlorer , as far as I can tell, "configuration" settings are identical on each computer (unless I am somehow missing something, which could a;ways be the case).

The strange thing is that on the Windows 8.1 computer, in which XYplorer loosed the mapped network drive connection, if I minimize XYplorer, and click "computer", Windows *DOES* show the drive properly mapped and networked, and if I click on the mapped drive letter, it will open the contents- but then I return to XYplorer and click on the drive letter on the toolbar, it gives me the error message "location currently not available". But again, on the Windows 7 computer, it is *ALWAYS* available in XYplorer, when I click on the toolbar drive icon.

Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated, as I just can't figure out what the problem could be, at this point.

Thanks, in advance, for any help or suggestions that might be offered. Hoping this question also has the possibility to help others who might have a similar problem, currently or in the future.

ps- I am using the most recent version of the XYplorer program on both computers, just in case anyone was wondering.

Thanks,
Cfguy

Need Help - No One Has Responded to Previous Post ...

Post by cfguy100 »

Hi,

I posted about problem/issue I was having 2 weeks ago now, but so far no one has replied (although I can see the post has been viewed quite a few times).

My original post is at: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14823

I am at a loss as to what to do next. Is it possible I chose the wrong forum to post about this problem in? This forum seemed like the most logical, to me, and I have posted previously in this forum (about a separate problem/issue), and had some good help and replies.

If someone would be so kind as to let me know what I should try as a next step, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much, in advance, for any help regarding this issue.

Best Wishes,
Cfguy

The lack of a response is probably just bad luck with your timing.
I can't really help you with that problem but recall that we had a few users some time back who had problems with 'location not available' messages, so maybe searching the forum for those problems and their solutions might be a first step.
It looks like the developer (admin) is currently taking a break somehow (otherwise you would see a new beta release popping up every day) so you might have to be just a bit more patient than usually necessary around here.

Maybe unrelated but I have seen similar where adding an "Enterprise" persistent credential solved the issue. Control Panel -> Credential Manager -> Windows Credentials -> Add

The only time my XY installation cannot find network-paths is when I run XY with administrator rights.
Running it "normal" (without admin rights) I had no problem so far.
