Ghost - a short story

John was working late hours. They had reached a major milestone that day and all that was left to be done was to package it all up nice and tight so it could go out to their customers. Thinking about their customers made him smile. After all, they paid his salary. His thoughts drifted off to the new laptop he had been saving for for months. MSI Ghost Pro. A beast of a machine! They had finally managed to put a GeForce 970M into it. Was about time. The next salary would bring in the missing cash. Joy flooded him from head to toe. John opened a new browser tab. He wanted to verify that his choice was still valid. He had compared every single component in the new laptop, had read every review, had looked at all the competitors. Should he reconsider the 4k-model? Nah, the time was not ripe for 4k-gaming. Dong. What was that? Dong. John froze. Dong. Church-bells! John smiled again. He was working in this shop for over 4 years now and had never noticed that they had a church nearby. John checked the time. It was shortly past midnight. He had work to finish. Filesystem work. His smile grew wider. He had just the right power tool for the job at hand. XYplorer. What a funny name. He had no idea where it was coming from, but then he didn't care. All he cared for now was to finish the job and get his well deserved sleep. With the press of a button his application launcher was right in his face. FARR. An even funnier name. But a tool just as powerful. Another button press and FARR was gone again, replaced by XYplorer a second later. John opened his home directory. He silently cursed the devs. Why could they never finish their stuff by noon, leaving him enough time to create the release documentation and package everything up to leave with the rest of them? He checked his home directory. Everything he needed was right there. He blinked. What was that? A couple of lonely dotfiles. Why were they even there? He knew his home directory was flooded with dotfiles. He used a whole bunch of cross-platform tools. And after all, these needed to remember stuff. He had updated to the latest XYplorer release just that day. The new release made it possible to hide those guys away making his job not only easier but also safer. He realized now how tired he was. Concentrate John! You must not make a mistake! He rubbed his eyes. When he looked back at the screen, the dotfiles were gone.

my point: Tree and List should have this function. and yes it should be case sensitive! yet i'd wish one to be able to state a path instead of just name/wildcard.

Not here, else it would also hide almost all folders.

The VF has probably latched onto the folder view settings.
Go to the ailing folder. Then select Menu > View > Folder View Settings > Edit... . The FVS editor should open. Clear the Visual filter... box there and OK out.

Go to the ailing folder. Then select Menu > View > Folder View Settings > Edit... . The FVS editor should open. Clear the Visual filter... box there and OK out.

well, with files Case is almost irrelevant, 'cause they have extensions, but with folders- it can easily happen one want to hide all "desktop" folders but keep "Desktop".

A theoretical possibility, but probably rare in real life. I will wait until I get complaints. BTW, Visual Filters (quite similar thing to those Ghost Filters) also are case-insensitive.
