I use a bunch of Command-line scanners, including ESET. I don't need real-time scanner at all

My favorite free solution. The most unobtrusive antivirus I've ever tried, with BitDefender's well known protection.

Just a little follow up: Today by chance I found more dirty left-overs (40 MB, 100 files) from my Avira test installation. So, again, a STRONG warning: Do NOT use AVIRA. It's CRAP. :blackstorm:

For those who jumped on board Bitdefender Free, and was sad, it didn't made it to Windows 10.

I've only used the public beta for a day, but so far, I have absolutely no complaints.

@Regmos:

From the website:
Web Protection for detecting and blocking malicious webpages

Isn't there any option to turn that off specifically?
Isn't there any way to add files / folders / processes to the exclusion list before they get flagged as malware? Can't see a way to do that...

Sorry, but NO to both. It's either Shields on or Shields off.

It's actually an antivirus for your grandma', and others who really don't want to be disturbed, but it runs so well, and the protection is as good as it gets.
Kind regards

Or, it's for people who don't care if every website url they visit is transferred to a company, so maybe yes: It's for your grandma

I have Webroot SecureAnywhere. It's very light. It is cloud based. No definitions file needed.

I use for years no AV! Because they are useless! They might protect against scriptkidz but not more!

I use only GlassWire, Sandboxie and Virustotal! :)

For normal users I can recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus! ESET has the fastest detection system of all providers! Or 360 Total Security - Does not play too much at the system and has Glasswire, Sandbox, etc already OnBoard! (The team behind 360 is just amazing! )

Antivirus solutions? 500MB of useless stuff on your hdd / sdd...

Why?
I got this mail today (for non-german speakers: It's free from obvious grammatical errors, apart
from very minor ones)
virus.png

They were at least so clever to fake the from address. Ok, it doesn't really make sense
that admin@ebay.com should be the sender but nevertheless...

It contains the .zip attachment. If you scan it with virustotal, only 6 out of 62 scanners state
it's a suspicious file: https://www.virustotal.com/de/file/a135 ... 500442504/

None of the better known ones (Avast, BitDefender, Comodo, Eset, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes, Microsoft, Symantec)...

Ok, after extracting it, it contains another .zip file
https://www.virustotal.com/de/file/ada3 ... 500455144/

8 out of 61

Finally, after extracting that, you get a .com file
https://www.virustotal.com/de/file/5823 ... 500442837/

10 out of 64. And again, apart from Symantec, all better known ones state it's no threat...

Comparing the results of the last two files:
Avira and McAfee think that the .zip file is suspicous. Fine
But scanning the .com file, both engines state the file is clean?
Seriously?

In other words: If you use one of the bigger / better known (and a few of them are free)
never think you are safe because you're using this kind of stuff.

There is only one good antivirus solution: Your brain!

Kaspersky Anti-Virus has recently released its free version for international use (it was restricted to Russian users only). I'm using it and it is pretty good.

I use Panda Free. I would gladly pay for it, but I only want the Anti-Virus as I also use Malwarebytes. Panda Free has a very small footprint.
