admin wrote:2) really? is the red warning not enough? i don't like clicking thru confirmations to much. I imagine you sometimes want to quickly redo a number of keys, and you know what you are doing... you don't want that safety belt.
hmm.. that's right. You could always add a checkbox "Do not warn me again" or something though. I said that because one could see the red warning but not really realize that Enter will overwrite it, and go to fast...

Actually, you're probably right a popup each time would be more a pain than anything else. But then about this, adding a third red line that would state that assigning this KS will overwrite the other one, just to let the user know?
admin wrote:3) better solution: enable the "Default" button only if there is a default key :)
Yeah, much better indeed!

Shift+F5 not working by default in 5.80.0031?
aka View > Calculate Folder Sizes

Works when I manually add it to CKS...

That was the first time I touched the CKS part of XY - now I have a feature suggestion :D (Don ->)

Please can you add a "search as you type" box, like in Thunderbird, for the Commands? Sometimes I'm not entirely sure where the function that I'm looking for is located in the menus, so just being able to type a word would make life a lot easier. The results would just be displayed in the Commands: window as they are currently, only filtered. There's even space for this filter/search box to the right of the Category: dropdown.

Please :)

Oooops, got another one :)

What about splitting the Commands: window into two distinct columns, Command and Key Assingment and allowing them to be ordered by clicking on the column header, like in the main list view?

This would provide a quick way of searching for which command is assinged to a shortcut.

HEY! I know, have a live search / quick filter for this column as well as the one I mentioned in the post above. That would give ultimate filter control/power for finding the command/key you want as fast as possible.

Add to this a Category: of "All" and you'd sorted ;)

It is there, and working, but as CKS are being done you might have to use "Reset All" in order to make things right, ie "restoring"/putting in place the default KS. Or else newly done menus don't have any/some (not sure) KS set

I meant it's not working by default, as I hadn't touched the CKS at all, ever, and it wasn't working. But I see that a reset all does bring it back - wierd...

Yeah, but as I said, or tried to ;), it's not weird, this happens because not all CKS are done yet. Once they'll be all done you won't get this anymore of course, but during the current beta phase when CKS are still being worked on/added a little more with each betas, internal formats (may) change & things must be reset to get it all working.

Hey allen, long time no see. Hope you're fine.
I'm great, moved to a new house and took ages getting it online.
So, as you were bumping into CKS without warning: do you find it intuitive to use?
I find it quite intuitive when I know what I'm looking for, when I'm not entirely sure takes a bit of clicking around. One could pose the argument, though, that a CKS need not be assigned to something used so infrequently you don't know intimately where it is :)

Of all the CKS out there, my favorite is probably that in Opera -- rather than selecting from commands you just custom make shortcuts with an auto-complete feature where you type the command. That can be tricky, though, if you're not sure what the function is called. Your implementation is nice and straight forward, accessible allows for multiple assignments for a single command and detects conflicts. IMO all the core/important stuff is there. Or will be, when all the functions are in :P

Not sure if this would be possible, but it's actually essentially something I had thought of, and was unsure of how best to describe or implement it...Luke's idea appears to be a good solution...

When you're trying to either find a particular key or command, and not really sure where it's located or what keys might be available for use, this could make it much easier to find...and might suffice without a "search as you type" being added.

However, a category of "All" would then mean there might need to be a way to show in which actual category a particular command falls...hummmm... :?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yeah, these are valid ideas... I'd say I leave room for improvement in later versions. In the first step I try to offer the basic working-class bread & butter CKS with an interface that most users know and immediately understand. Later, with some time and experience gone by, we add some usability doping.

I completely agree Don. This is very much an "improving usability" thing and should really only be done once it's all working 100%. If you'd like I can come up with a mockup or two on how it might work - for future reference?

Yes, cool. But not too early or it will be forgotten (like so many things  (wink@lukescammell)).

Hahahaha, I've not forgotten :P I can continue shortly (when several deadlines have passed) especially as I've now successfully got rid of Sharepoint, so the boss can't see XY fail miserably on that now :P

However, I've just found an outlook D&D bug :( I'll email you it as the email's are client emails...

Good idea, just added that.

j_c_hallgren wrote:Update: When I click "default" in above situation and then use Cancel, without Assign, the current key assigned is removed! Huh?
Just saw your update, but cannot reproduce.
You must know: "Assign" does not actually assign a key until you close the CKS dialog via OK. And the assigned keys are not written to ks.dat until you close the app via Saving on Exit or until you explicitly save the configuration. So there are a lot of safety belts in case you mess up your key-2-function mapping.
