Folder size does not work

Post by Frank D »

I've searched for an answer on this, but no luck. :?

I'm using XYplorer 14.40.0200 on Windows 7 64-bit, with 4 GB RAM. After pressing Shift F5 and waiting, multiple times, there is still no folder size information appearing. Is there a known reason for this? Any help will be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the club!

Just to make sure you do have the Size column visible (View -> Columns -> Size) and are in Details list mode (View -> Views)?

I'd also try it on a folder you know doesn't contain much so as to eliminate patience timeouts. ;)

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I'm in Details view, and Size is checked in the list.

I now see that the folder/folders at the top of the list have its/their size shown, but all the ones below that/those have no size shown. Does this indicate that the size of the folder(s) is very large and it takes my PC a long time to tally its/their size? If so, I guess there's no remedy for this. :(

That may be the case. It could also be that you/something cancelled the calculating within XY - hitting Escape while the window is focused or attempting to navigate to a different location will do so.

Unfortunately, to calculate the size XY has to recursively scan the entire contents of the folder which can take quite a while; even on the most powerful of machines.

I'm afraid that's the case: my CPU is just too slow to show the sizes of all the folders on my PC, except after a long time. I just wish Microsoft had not eliminated the folder size capability from its Windows Explorer. Thank you for your help. :)

I have the same problem: only file sizes appear in the size column; folder sizes are not shown at all, regardless of how big or small they are.
