64-bit context menu

Post by beethoven »

I upgraded to Version 14.3 and when trying the paper folders noticed that shell integration has been improved too (though that may have been done a while ago) - thank you.

I see that for 64-bit windows os you can tick "show the real system 32 directory"and "show the 64 bit context menu'. I am running Win 7/64 bit and in the past for some 64 bit programs had to right-click / show 64 context and then could access these programs to run etc. The current version shows all options when using right-click immediately, so that's great. I now have both the 32 and the 64 bit option clicked - is that a problem or are there any drawbacks in having both options ticked?

Both of those options are completely unrelated. Neither of them have any affect on the other. The choice is yours if you want them or not.

thank you and sorry - I am not that experienced - I obviously want the 64-bit context menu to make use of those 64 bit applications. Do I also need the other "real system 32 directory"? In windows explorer 64-bit programs are available via right click without having to specify anything. What am I "losing" by unticking the 32-bit option? Offhand I cannot see any difference.

The "Show the real System32 directory" option relates to viewing the contents of the folders system32 and SysWOW64 in your Windows directory. If you don't know what that means, you don't need it. Check it, un-check it, whatever! It has nothing to do with your context menus or your 32-bit or 64-bit installed applications. Details are in the Help file if you are interested. Press F1 or click the Help button while viewing the Shell Integration options page.
