1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

Trying to make changes in settings....

Post by stephr1 »

OK, so I've come up with something else that seems odd.

When I go into settings and attempt to change "XYplorer in shell context menu" I get a window that says I need to be an admin...no problem. So, I exit out of XYplorer, restart as admin in order to effect the changes I want. I never make it to the Settings window. Instead I get the XYplorer Trial Version window asking me if I want to continue as eval, buy or quit.

What could I be missing here???

Thank.....

While runninag as admin, XY has access to it's folder (where it's installed) and creates a new profile. You want to ask XY to always load your own, registered profile.
While not running as admin, enter <xydata> in the addressbar, and note the open location's path. In the image below the path is equivalent to %appdata%\xydata

Okay, now close XYplorer and reopen as admin.
While running as Admin, disregard the licensing window (by pressing "Continue Evaluation"). Enter <xypath> in the addressbar. Does the opened location have a file named "startup.ini"? If not, create it.
Then open "startup.ini" in notepad and make sure the content is like this:

Code: Select all

[Appdata]
Path=%Appdata%\XYData
Replace %Appdata%\XYData with the location you noted earlier.
Now quit XYplorer and restart as admin again. Is the correct profile loaded now?

Windows asks you for admin permissions, not necessarily to login as one :)

So the much easier way would have been:
Right click on the xyplorer.exe file (e.g. in Windows Explorer) and from the context menu choose
"Run as administrator".

Enter your admin credentials (if necessary), use you shell context menu setting, save settings.
Done :)
