Cant drag-drop into body of Outlook email?

Post by ryanagler »

I am not able to drag-n-drop a file from xy into the body of an Outlook email to add an attachment. I can do it from Windows Explorer just fine.

When I try it from xy, the cursor indicates I should be able to drop into the body, but when i do that, nothing happens -- no file gets added as an attachment.

I am running Outlook 2013 and xy 13.90.0100 on Win 8.1 64bit. And it works fine on my old Win7 computer with xy 8.70.0100 / Outlook 2007

How can I fix this?

Sorry, cannot comment. I'm using Thunderbird and dropping works alright. Hopefully some other user has a tip...

Outlook 07 here: drag-drop works just fine. Maybe Outlook 2013 is 64bits?

It is 64 bit Office 2013. But why should 64bits make a difference if i can drag n drop from Windows Explorer?

just a thought.

And while I'm at it, another thought: if you have any addins, try disabling them and then drag.

Because your Explorer is 64bit too as opposed to XY...

I don't think bitness plays a role here. It's rather that Outlook 2013 does something different from Outlook 2007.

Outlook 2010 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit works fine with XYplorer 14.00 32-bit. ;)
Just to narrow the gap a bit.

I don't have any addins. Its a vanilla install.

I'm having the same "painful" issue!
Windows 8.1 64bit + Outlook 2013 64bit + XYPlorer 14.10.0100

Here are my test results:
- Dragging from Explorer to Outlook Folder: Creates an email with attachment
- Dragging from Explorer to Outlook New Email Window: Inserts the attachment
- Dragging from XYplorer to Outlook Folder: Creates an email with attachment
- Dragging from XYplorer to Outlook New Email Window: Nothings happens

So it doesn't look like a 64-bit compatibility issue.

I tried to downgrade to 13.90, and it's the same!

Please try to fix this issue. For now I have to fall back on the Copy-n-Paste keyboard shortcut.
Thanks!

More info:
Previously I was running: Windows 7 64bit + Outlook 2010 64 bit + XYPlorer 13.90.
Everything worked just fine.

I'd like to but it looks like I would need to install Outlook 2013 on my system to see what's going on. I put it on my list, but it won't happen too soon.

.... Please fix this, dragging an attachment to an email is like in the top 5 most common things I do with drag-n-drop, it sucks having to open Windows Explorer several times a day.
