Too bad. Was going to have a closer look at CAS but this limitation stops me from using it.->unusable.

P.S.: I gradually regret it more and more to have given XY a go. There are too many features implemented only half way. This CAS is a good example. Another example is the ifilters, which only work if they are 32bit. In my felt memory there are many more, if you want I can make a list throughout the next 3 months while I might run into them again. XY is very innovative, which is good, but it ALWAYS stays a beta-program and I start wondering why I payed money for it. Don, if you listen, for having paying customers you care too much "only" about your own needs and not enough about those of the paying customers. As soon as your own needs with a certain feature are satisfied and if it would be "too much" effort to actually complete the feature to make it really work all the way, then you simply don't care anymore. Despite that I payed for XY already, maybe it comes the time to keep my eyes open for a better file manager again after all. As the rumor goes, there should be one which always copies the XY features anyway but maybe this one does incorporate them in a full customer satisfying way. Maybe I will at least check it out and see.

but it ALWAYS stays a beta-program
It's beta because of what? All those "half-implemented" features? Show me one competitor that pushes fixes / improvements on a daily basis and calls them stable releases afterwards. No product will ever meet all customers requirements. Scripting helps but ofc it can't solve everything.

I'd like to see some core improvements as well (mainly threading) but VB is limited (and as it seems there still isn't a 64bit compiler).
and if it would be "too much" effort to actually complete the feature to make it really work all the way, then you simply don't care anymore
Some features require a lot of work and if they fulfill the "basic" needs of most of the userbase, why invest too much time to add the last e.g. 5% (while requiring 80% more work to reach them). Everyone's life consist of such decisions, at least for those who call themselfes "perfectionists".
As the rumor goes, there should be one which always copies the XY features anyway but maybe this one does incorporate them in a full customer satisfying way.
Which is?

Btw, these words are my personal opinion and not something that I write because of my moderator status...

It is indeed a show-stopper for CAS, I feel the same way:

Hehe, well, I am one of those who suggest features across managers. In my never-ceasing quest for the one that binds them all, so to speak, the lord of all managers. Owning licences to most major players I take a much more pragmatic approach than those who stick to one denomination with an almost religious faithful zest. So you won't hear me bad-mouthing other managers.

But you won't hear me praising them, either. As much as I rely on other managers, I wish I wouldn't need them, they always make me miss XY, and the more time I spend customizing it, the worse it gets. And yes, just like you, I have really bad XY days, when it turns out I cannot achieve ubiquitous tasks that others handle with ease. Not to mention stability and reliability issues.

The grass is indeed greener on the other side, it does not just look greener. But you have to actually go there to notice other things missing. Those flowers that suddenly look irreresistible when looking back over the XY fence. And so I keep jumping back and forth, passing dual pane locations between managers ... :|

Some people's opinions appear to be beta as well:

Hi Don,
I thought I would not comment on this thread any further, but since you linked to this specific example of FVSVF (FolderViewSettings with VisualFilters), I am kind of forced to comment again.
This example of FVSVF has, since I had written that very comment in the linked thread, turned, sad as it may be, into another bother, because you changed the functionality thereafter (especially in connection with search tabs and tabs opened from within a search tab). I had found no reaseon so far, to make a big deal out of it and to correct that other statement of mine from long ago, but since you brought it up, I feel, I had to clearify matters.

And now I still don't know of this mysterious "there should be one which always copies the XY features anyway but maybe this one does incorporate them in a full customer satisfying way" software...

He was probably talking about "The file manager that so desperately wants to be like XYplorer" ... well, at least that would be a string I would search for. But I would not mention the name unless you want to get sued. They are without mercy. :titter:

Hi Don and others,
I overreacted and that was not fair of me. I should not have voiced my feedback in such a stupid way. I am sorry and I want to officially apologize for my overreaction.

Stephan

Next beta adds a way to exclude folders in a Quick Search, hence also in CAS.
