question re context menu

Post by seyda »

Hi, 2nd question ...

The only area I've found yet where XY reacts kinda quirky is the right click context menu.
I run a mixture of tools, old and new, 32 and 64bits, chosen for specific reasons. Some of them will never be updated again, all work 100% stable (including context menu) in both XP64 and W7/64's stock Explorers.
In XY, some appear in the 32bit menu, some in the 64bit menu, some not at all (notably WinRar32 with RMB drag aka the "extract here etc" submenu which I use all the time), I've had partial success with manually adding context menu items, the RMB drag menu still never shows WinRar, and it also shows several different versions of the XY menu in a seemingly random manner.
Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong, or what I could do to at least get WinRar back in the RMB drag process ? The regular right click 32 menu works fine for WinRar, not so for others like e.g. ZoomPlayer.
WinRar is a fully legal magware version 3.51, without update permission however. Serves me just fine so far, don't see anything exciting added in the current version to warrant buying it.

Any ideas much appreciated, basic registry hacking would not be a problem.
I don't need any fancy stuff here, reliable standard Windows functionality would be fine.

Two options:

1) Either untick Configuration | Menus, Mouse, Safety | Context Menus | Custom drag and drop context menu.

2) Or leave it ticked and use the last item in the context menu named "Shell context menu..." when you need it.

Thanks, Don, but unfortunately both options don't make WinRar32's RMB-drag submenu show up, only the generic four items (move, copy, shortcut here & cancel).
W7/64Pro SP1 & XP64SP2 react identical.

Then WinRar32 did not install the necessary 32-bit shell extensions. Which is strange because I have WinRar32 here under Win8/64 and it works as expected.

Sorry, but why does it work with Windows Exploder then, on both my XP64 and W7/64 machines ?
To be on the safe side, I just did a complete WinRar uninstall, cleaned out the registry manually using RegeditX Crawler and reinstalled - same as before.

If Winrar 32 installs only the 64-bit extensions on a 64-bit system then Exploder but not XY will see them.

Point is, the drag'n'drop menu doesn't show up with "show 64bit context menu" ticked on the Shell Integration tab either.
Wouldn't it be possible to just look at both context menu branches like Windows does, and be done with it ? Apparently (ime at least) everything is possible with context menu entries, so wouldn't this be the safest solution ?
In WinRar's case I fixed the issue manually now via RegeditX (on XP64 so far, hope it'll work on W7, too).
In a nutshell, I checked out what the current WinRar32 demo does differently and went from there.

Yes, that drag'n'drop shell menu has no 64-bit support in XY currently. Will come later.
