hello, and question re network (solved)

Post by seyda »

Hi folks,
new here, first let me thank you for all the effort going into this incredible tool ! :appl:
XY solves many of my longstanding problems with Windows file management beautifully, not least color coding and -tagging, triple pane view, tabs, perfact rename behaviour even in W7, getting rid of the hideous W7 tree in favor of a more basic XP style tree, zooming and much more ...
There are two biggies still remaining to be solved for me however, pretty sure it's pilot error, until I can buy the full version and make it my default file manager.

- network
in XP(64) I can make links to all relevant network locations in my workgroup, appearing in the tree directly below "Network", which is ideal.
In W7 this is no longer possible, I have to use favorites instead, which jump to the official path, opening the full tree path - full size pita !
In XY (free atm) and W7(Pro64) the only workaround I found is to start XY with a random network path, then magically the remote PC appears, showing all shared drives.
What is the intended method to permanently display network resources in XY's tree ?

I'll start another topic for the 2nd Q.

Thanks for any help !

Hi and welcome to the club!

I suggest you use
Configuration | Startup & Exit | Cache network servers

and edit the list of cached servers here:
Tools | List Management | Servers in Network Folder...

Does this help?

Ok, back from the weekend.
Thanks, Don, you pointed me in the right direction.
Didn't find the exact menu items in 13.90.0100 free, but by editing some related settings in the ini the net resources did show up. Might be a free vs paid thing ?
Anyway, problem solved !
Thanks again,
seyda

Oh, right, it is not in the free version. So you managed to make it work anyway? Smart!

... more like the luck of the brave.
Can't even tell you what exactly did the trick, I backed up the original ini, enabled a few network related options and the shares showed up.
Hey, it works, good enough for me.
cheers,
seyda
