Actually it was jacky's idea -- and, yes, it is brilliant!zridling wrote:Although I don't use the toolbar at all in XYplorer, adding context menus to various buttons is something I would have never thought of in a thousand years. Just the changes to the Hotlist toolbar button alone is brilliant in its efficiency and creative thinking. Thanks man!

I completely agree, but if I may, could there be one more addition?
Make a Paste Sepcial button as well? I'm quite happy using the keyboard for cut, copy and paste, but I don't know a shortcut for paste special so...
Code: Select all
+ Toolbar: added special context menus to the toolbar buttons "Cut",
"Copy", and "Paste", featuring all 3 commands plus "Paste
Special..." in each of them. Just making your life a bit easier once
more.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year all! It's been a while, and as usual when I get back, XYplorer has some great new features, speedups, bugfixes and clarity fixes. Don, you're a legend.
Actually I'm still looking back through the version history, the last version I got was 5.00.0044 so it's taking a while! Anyway here are my favourite new features (that I found so far):
Actually I'm still looking back through the version history, the last version I got was 5.00.0044 so it's taking a while! Anyway here are my favourite new features (that I found so far):
- Toolbar buttons: Calculate folder sizes, Show/Hide hidden items, Toggle Details/Thumbnails view
- Largest icons used for thumbnail view
- MouseDownBlowUp improvements (esp. quick-select left-click)
- Rename with unselected extension
- Check existence of subfolders for tree nodes
- >128x128 thumbnail options
- Visual filters
- "Current tab" submenu in View menu (much easier to understand now, though I'm still confused about some things being in View instead of Configuration)
- Home zones
- Toolbar context menus
- My application load time has gone down from 2s to 1.5s
- Color filters
- Outlook drop
- Select Focused File Type
- F7 rewrite
- Super-fast thumbnail creation (great for small thumbnails)
test everything. hold on to the good.
5.50.0006 batch rename: Holy moly
The Batch Rename feature in this version that lets you do nothing to rename files numerically with any size pad (00,000,0000...) you choose leaves me speechless. Hey, and its keyboard shortcut — SHIFT+F2 — is right there. Wow. And the full screen preview with black background is pretty cool, too.

As I rename and link to individual files a lot the features added in 5.50.0005 are amazing time savers. Thanks Don! All I need now is to be able to use these *everywhere* else in Windows. Any chance of a shell extension?
Code: Select all
v5.50.0005 - 01.01.07 12:47
+ List View's Rename edit box:
- Now Up/Down keys unselect any selection inside the edit box by a
single keystroke without moving the caret one position to the
left or right.
This is useful for example when the selection is set to the base
excluding the extension (to do this, check Configuration |
Advanced | Exclude extension on rename).
Note that using the Up key will move the caret to the left end
of the selection, using the Down key will move it to the right
end. Another nice control plus.
- Now Ctrl+A does select all contents.

There's a couple of features that needed quite some talking by you hardcore users to finally soften me up and make me add them. And some of these turned out to be so good that I don't want to live without them anymore! Like:
Color Filters!
Locked tabs!
Default tab!
Vital stuff! Thanks for kicking me!

5.60.00 —
The new outlined white background for Plus/Minus icons in the tree are perfect. I didn't think that could be improved, but once again Don's eye for elegant, understated design comes through. Love it.

5.60.0003
drag'n'drop files onto catalog items that point to executables
Are you kidding me? Holy crap, and just when I thought XYplorer couldn't make things any easier or faster. Fantastic feature, thanks Don!

Amen brother. My downloads directory at home (lots of crap as I don't sort through it very often) and my PDF directory at work each have a lot of files in them that used to cause XY to think for a few seconds while it sorted them to date ordered, now it's as near as instant as I can tell. Thanks Donugus wrote:Wow! - the new sorting algo really have speeded up XYplorer. (even more...)
Thanks
Now just to get those damned right click menus to show up on the correct screen when you have XY on your 2ndary monitor...

5.80.0018 -- Cool!
Wow, the keyboard shortcuts dialog is very nice, very big (I can read the options without having to scroll left-to-right!), and easy to work with. I presume the keyboard shortcuts will be saved within the INI file? If not, and they are saved to a separate file, it'd be great to add that option to the dialog, too.
Also, the revised sort algorithm is noticeable. XYplorer works perfectly so far in Vista x64, and while fast, when sorting a list of 14,000+ photos, it reordered the files quickly after deleting, moving, and renaming a 1,000 files at a time. Like I said: Wow!
