Photo organizing (not edit)

Post by binocular222 »

I need to organize my large photo collection, just need to:
- view
- edit metadata
- Filter with metadata
- No need to edit/adjust in anyway (I strongly favour clean UI and speed over the capability to edit)

I tried Lightroom but it put too much emphasis on editing (thus slow and cluttering UI)
I'm a casual coder using AHK language. All of my xys scripts:

What metadata are these? (which apparently is the only thing you are missing in XY?)

A great feature for XYplorer!
For the average user to edit IPTC information, the most important fields it's: Description, Keywords and Instructions. On these fields, you can search and organize.
The EXIF contains mostly technical information and do not need to change it.
The big problem is that we have correctly recorded in the IPTC information are only two program with user-friendly interface, it is Adobe Bridge, and XnView. Read many, starting from Windows Explorer.
Good will if this feature will appear in XYplorer.

These are in alternate data stream (ADS), right? Are they accessed by the extended shell properties? In other words: Can you show them in the new columns, or on the Meta tab?

Mmh, they should be metadata much like exif or id3.

Information which was recorded in the file itself.
Here's an example, I added a bit of: IPTC information

in the file:

of any possible download and read the data. This can be seen in the new columns and the Meta tab.

OK, it's all extended properties. Only "Instructions" seems to be missing. Is this EXIF?

In my file save file only IPTC.
But IPTC and EXIF data in some places may overlap:

I don't know anything about IPTC. Not on my list. So indeed you better look for 3rd party software.

Concerning the meta tab, here is a screenshot from Windows 8.1, XYplorer v13.80.0110:

Question is: Do you see the same (localized) fields in your Windows version? (Sorry for you, if you don't read German. :P )

I see the Meta tab with some info but there're A LOT more field offered by EXIF and IPTC. I guess XY only show the most common field in Meta Tab.
I'm concern more about "keyword" aka "tag" field in IPTC

Yes on my Windows 7, everything looks the same.
Wanted to add.
The IPTC has a lot of fields, not necessarily all of them. We only need basic it: Description-is already up and running and Keywords (you can skip the Instructions), especially in XYplorer already have similar -Tags and Comment. I've read that You want to add a virtual tree tags, just the IPTC fields can be useful.
For example as XnViewMP reads Keywords:

It was just a thought. I don't offer, but.
In XYplorer already everything is ready for this purpose - it can read these data and look for according to them, it was necessary to make only preservation of it in any file, those more if Virtual Tree Tags is planned. For example Bridge stores a tree of keywords in the Keywords.xml file (more than 700 records, the size - 25Кb), but files are displayed only by search. And it is possible to add Description and Keywords in the special program for example in XnView.
