Renaming Windows 'My Documents' folder to a drive letter

Post by Chris Wood »

OS: Windows Me
What happens:
After renaming the Windows 'My Documents' folder (the one on the desktop) to a drive letter, TrackerV3 shows nothing in the file (left-hand) pane for that drive. For example, if you rename the 'My Documents' folder to 'C', nothing in C: will show in the left-hand pane. This seems to happen for every drive letter.

Yes, I know this is a very minor bug, but it was quite disturbing when it happened, I thought it was something to do with the new beta at first, and didn't work it out till I'd reinstalled / reconfigured three times.
test everything. hold on to the good.

I believe it! Pretty disturbing for my taste. I fixed it (wait for the next BETA).

Thanks for seeing that.

PS: Why do you do that? Rename the 'My Documents' folder to a drive letter... :?

Well, I had tried renaming the 'My Computer' and 'My Documents' folders to a blank space, and gave them blank icons, so that they'd be invisible on my desktop. Then I got annoyed at these blank lines in Explorer/TrackerV3 so I renamed them to the next shortest thing: C & D respectively.

Which leads me to another feature request :p

You can do that now (new BETA just out!). I still don't get your reasons though -- do you have to pay rent for your screenspace, or you want to save black pixels for harder times? :)

I like to have a minimally-obstructed view of my wallpaper.

I have no icons at all on my desktop. That's minimal. 8)
