Sony Walkman not listed

When a Sony NWZ-S615F Walkman is connected to a USB port it is not listed in the devices list, while it shows up in Windows Explorer as WALKMAN. I am almost sure this also happens with CANON "A" series cameras (I had one on hand earlier, but no more). Any particular reason?

XY does not list devices that are no drives.

I understand, but would like to point out that the Walkman is a storage device. Behind the WALKMAN entry, Windows Explorer lists "Storage Media" and then a normal folder structure:

Code: Select all

WALKMAN
  Storage Media
    DCIM
    MP_ROOT
    MUSIC
    PICTURE
    PICTURES
    VIDEO
I guess Sony masks the "Storage Media" entry, but isn't there a way to overcome this?

Unless I add support for listing such devices, you could try to map it on a drive if that's possible.

Even in version 12.8, I cannot see any media devices -- Sony Walkman, iPod, Samsung S3.... that are connected via usb, either directly into the machine or through a hub. Previous posts seem to be saying, "yep, they don't work." I doubt I am alone in saying this is a sever limitation on XY. I use these devices for storage, file transfer, etc, etc....they are a fundamental part of my computing use. This shortcoming means I have to bounce back and forth to windows explorer in order to do my work. I would rather move past explorer, that's why I bought XY. So it seems like an 80% product and does not provide the feature which is perhaps most important to me.

Am I missing something in configuration? My devices get plugged in and out in different orders and times so mapping them really is not a solution. :|

pdesousa, have you tried looking into USBDLM (USB Drive Letter Manager)?

USBDLM allows you to map drives. Windows does too but you have to do it manually through disk management.
