PSPad Syntax Highlighting

Post by RalphM »

I have updated the language definition files for PSPad to reflect the changes made in XY's scripting engine up to v12.40.0205.

Attached is a zip with the current files.

@Don: Feel free to replace them as well on the homepage, but I think they can be found easy enough here on the forum.

You're welcome everybody.

After I answered a question on the forum about syntax highlighting and had to say that the PSPad language files were only almost up to date, I went to check and figured it was about time to catch up on it.

@Don: Since you didn't want this to be the sole place to share syntax highlighters for editors (by adding another one in the license lounge), you should probably update this one in the license lounge as well...

Ah, you got me! No, I'm not starting this again. No time. github might be a way to make it easier for me, or any other possibility to provide a fixed link whose contents can be updated by you...

Tip: send the PSPad files to Jan to include it into next release. (support#pspad.com)

@Stefan: With PSPad update cycles of +/- 2 years this doesn't make sense, me thinks.
By the time it is integrated into the distribution it won't be current anymore.

@Don: What's wrong with a dedicated thread per highlighter in the Scripting section, the way I started this one?

Right. But he includes such things also into the beta archives.
I can ask him if you want myself (after your files are proved by the community to be correct)

The number of potential users probably doesn't make it worth for him to spend time on integrating it.

Hi RalphM,
just a small question, maybe you have an idea?

Seeing your sceenshot I noticed that the bold words were very good to recognize. Written directly in PSPad on my PC the difference between normal and bold seems to be *much* less - really not so easy to see. (On writing a codeword like Input I can see that it changes to bold, but the difference to normal just is quite small.)

Do you have any idea what could be the reason? Maybe the font in use or so? (For me it's Courier New 10 - but it seems I don't have many selections here.)

My font is Lucinda Console and AFAIR I never changed anything font related in PSPad's settings...

Ah - thanks a lot! Lucida Console (L.C.) shows much more difference for bold text! :appl:

Though a bit strange on first sight:
- L.C. in preview *seems* to be wider if it's bold. But in real this isn't true
(this was why I didn't test it  )
- the first look on a full page is very strange if you are used to Courier New.
- L.C. 10 is much wider than C.N. 10: 90 instead of 100 columns for definite window size :(
- but it's hight is smaller: 54 instead of 45 lines :D
 tested with L.C. 9: width like C.N. 10, height still a bit smaller, still good readable, *good* contrast for bold text!

  seems I'll stick to Lucida Console 9 :D :appl:

So thanks again!
