At the risk of turning this inot anther wish list post, I actually reckon .zip and .tar.gz *should* be included since both windows and OSX support them natively. It's an acceptable minimum level, so other archives can be dealt with by a dedicated archiver, but ZIP is everywhere, so supporting a minimum level of compression is a good thing IMO.

I agree that this is not the place for wishes, but just wanted to say that, AFAIK, while windows XP may support .zip natively, MY windows (98SE & 2K) do NOT! They both look at a .zip with a :? until I install a zip handler, such as WinZip...

Here's two wish threads about zip...there likely are others:

5.40.0025 — simply Brilliant!

Post by zridling »

Holy crap, I not only discovered some features I had not been using (kicking self in the backside), but having SHIFT+F6 to move the focused item into view is really helpful, since I spend a good deal of time scrolling during some projects.

CTRL+SHIFT+M (Select by Selected Type/s) and CTRL+ALT+J (Filter by Selected Extension/s) are two others I should have been using more often.

Bravo, Don!

Don't kick yourself too hard :P , since most of what you've mentioned are quite new features! Some are virtually brand new...so you're on time to start using them just like we all are!

The one thing I do not like about it is that you need two hands for SHIFT+F6 unless you are King Kong. But there was no better idea in my head... :|

Code: Select all

+ List view: Now you can change the sort order/sorted column also in
      an empty list
Thanks, this one is really cool IMHO. Don't necessary have to use it every day, but it's a nice thing to be able to do so when needed! :D

I tried to understand it and could not, but i am curious what one is trying to sort when a list is EMPTY. I am sure i am missing some trick here.

:P Obviously not trying to sort anything, as list is empty indeed. But when at times I end up in some empty folder and I wanna change the sort order for later, I had to go to another folder just to do so, which bugged me... 8)

Left hand: thumb on RSHIFT, little finger on F6

What's hard about that? :P

I can't even be tempted to use the LSHIFT as I use one of these.

    * Experimentally, on network drives (UNC or mapped) freshly
displayed tree folders are not checked for any contained
subfolders anymore, but it is assumed that subfolders exist. In
other words: the "+" icon is set unconditionally. This strategy,
which is common among file managers, will speed up network
      browsing considerably.
Now network browsing is instantaneous. Thanks. :D

+ Visual Filters now work in Find mode, too! Performance costs are
hardly measurable if VF is off; costs are higher if it is on, of
course, depending on the complexity of the filter.
Lovely job :)

Now I can do a quick and dirty search and then drill down into the results quite easily :D (this is because I'm too lazy to learn RegEx :D)

5.50.0001 Toolbar context menus — brilliant!

Post by zridling »

Although I don't use the toolbar at all in XYplorer, adding context menus to various buttons is something I would have never thought of in a thousand years. Just the changes to the Hotlist toolbar button alone is brilliant in its efficiency and creative thinking. Thanks man!
