Support for .ogg preview.
Support for .ogg preview.
Yes. I would greatly appreciate support for the .ogg audio format. Is it possible?

Re: Support for .ogg preview.
I think it would be possible, but at the moment I have no intention to add this format. It's a touch too exotic for a general purpose tool. When OGG gets big I'll reconsider it.
.Ogg already has a very big user base. There are music bands which use it, and use the video version of Ogg Vorbis, since it does not have a license. Have a look at http://www.vorbis.com/ .[/url]

AFAIK, ogg support would not be possible without an additional DLL which must be installed on the user system.
Up to now, TrackerV3 has only one such dependency, GdiPlus.dll, which is already part of XP and present in the majority of older OSs. Can ogg support be expected to part of a future OS?
Also, ogg is a young format and still developing rapidly. I think it's wise to wait some time before touching it.

I think on my computer, Windows XP SP1, the Windows Media Player 8 supports .ogg natively. I think most popular players support .ogg natively. Is there a way to use these popular players to preview .ogg? To answer the question, I think .ogg support is quite likely for future OS's, given the rate of growth, and the native support of it in Window's own player.
To make the downloading process more complicated, you could provide the .dll that supports .ogg seperately.

How is that possible? I can't find anything in the web about this. Windows Media Player cannot handle OGG officially. You must have done something... try to remember!
Can it be you installed the "The Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filter collection" from http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm?
Is ogg also listed here?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI Extensions

Well, I can't find the ogg string, but I did find the ogm string.
EDIT: My wrong. :/ I installed the K-Lite Meg Codec Pack from http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm This includes the support for .ogg type files. :/ Sorry.
..As further proof to the popularity of .ogg, there are already 'mp3' players which support it, along with the normal .wma, and .mp3.
The codec is not 'that' big... 103kb http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Vorbis_Ogg_ACM.htm

Hey, I succeeded in teaching WMP to play ogg/ogm!
The trick: install the "The Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filter collection" from http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm (Direct download link).
It was not necessary to install the vorbis_acm codec.
Now I will see if I can teach TrackerV3, too...
