Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Don, would there be anyway you could have the "Thumbnails view background" color setting in Configuration > Preview > Thumbnails have an independent background color setting for Dark mode? The thumbnail view was important enough to have its own color setting, but presently you can't really make a separate setting for dark mode. In that, if I want to be in Dark mode (and I do now especially with your latest changes), but I'd like my thumbnail views (only) to have a white background, you can't do that currently. I can make some light gray background that would apply to light and dark modes, but if I set the background to white or black, it will be black probably because of your white-to-dark algorithms.
Possibly this could be accomplished by having a separate setting for Normal and a separate setting for Dark. Currently it appears the "USE" checkbox overrides the default white color maybe something similar could be done for Dark mode. Thanks.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Well, I guess there are many more colors that users would like to define separately for light and dark mode. Currently I don't want to got that way. I'm sticking with the "Smart Dark Mode" which is derived from the Light Mode colors.

No problem Don. As I mentioned, my thought was that maybe the thumbnail background, since it has its own section in Configuration, unlike the other Smart Dark Mode colors, that maybe it deserved to have a separate dark setting. Thanks.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Hi Don, I'm not sure if my settings for transparency of icons is not correct or what the problem is. The picture says it all I suppose. In dark mode obviously the look of icons in a thumbnail view are not so nice. It doesn't seem to matter at all in dark mode how I change the Configuration settings for transparency or the specific background or whether I check "Use" or not. Icons look like the pic below in dark mode. Regular photos in thumbnail views are fine.
This was the main reason for this particular wish, so I posted in this thread. Is there something I'm missing in settings or tweaks that's causing this? These thumbnails are transparent and look fine on menus or CTBs? The white area around the icons (what should be transparent) instead of white is black on MDBU and in floating previews and info panel preview. The icons obviously look fine on a white background thumbnail view as well but look rather crappie on black.

Might be a good time to refresh your thumbs cache...

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Jeez, OK you got me there.
So, a thumbnail rebuild is in this case is actually syncing the icon's transparency background to the background in thumbnail view? Just trying to understand and I ask because if I return to light mode (from dark) though, that same icon background is black until I rebuild the whole cache again.
I noticed even when I rebuilt as you mentioned the subfolders were still white background.
Edit1: Those folder icons are simply represented by the first icon file in those sub folders, but they display properly with a black background in those folders.
Edit2: I see that same folder white background at the very edges even when I have full zoom to fill folder thumbnails as seen in the next pic. These pics are after refreshing the thumbnail cache. It looks like the folder background is staying white even in dark mode.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Conc, the white margin: this should be yellow unless you set the clrFolderThumbs tweaks...

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Yeah, Don, in the meantime I had remembered that you had come up with a change (but I guess it was a tweak) that allows us to change the yellow colors users were complaining about. I found 3 different settings related:
It would be nice if we could set one for dark mode as well as light. Those must be all white I have now. Not sure about clrFolderThumbs1 vs clrFolderThumbs2?
Edit: When I set those values to 0, the color goes yellow. Whereas in other cases in XYplorer.ini file "0" is black.
Code: Select all
clrFolderThumbs1=16777215
clrFolderThumbs2=16777215
clrFolderThumbsBorder=16777215
Edit: When I set those values to 0, the color goes yellow. Whereas in other cases in XYplorer.ini file "0" is black.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Yes, 0 means "no tweak".
Next beta those colors will be smart-darkened.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
What a huge difference on icons and thumbnails. Thanks Don. [Note: Experimenting earlier, I used SC setthumb to assign a thumbnail to a folder if you're wondering what the hell is that eagle doing there.]
EDIT: From testing, it appears you still have to refresh thumbnails if you transition from dark to light though or visa versa se pic after beta v22.80.0125. Correct? Windows 11, 23H2 Build 22631.3447 at 100% 2560x1440

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
My folder thumbnails use to have a yellow border with a barely noticeable gradient, which I didn't mind since my default folder thumbnail is also yellow. However, that gradient has now become dark and very 3D against the flat interface.
I'm assuming this change has something to do with the updates discussed here, so I've been playing with the ClrFolderThumbs tweak(s) trying to get a flat yellow border for my folder thumbnails. Neither a hex nor decimal code I put into the tweak works for me, they seem to just give me a random color. Any tips?
This is my code (decimal color), the color I'm going for, and the current results...
While I'm at it, any proper documentation on tweaks? I can't find anything in the help file...

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
It looks like a different algorithm.

Re: Independent thumbnail background color for Dark mode.
Next version will be back to normal. It was a bad idea to smart-darken the tweak colors.
Tweaks are not documented outside this forum and the change log.
