Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
Aka sticky Name column. Would you like that? I would.

Even on a FullHD monitor there are times in which I need the name and a column on the far right, but scrolling isn't enough and I don't want to change my order of the columns

Re: Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
Looks like a winner.
I think it should be featured in this menu (so it will automatically also be a part of Folder View Settings), maybe right after "Show Line Numbers":

Maybe in the Column context menu as well?
There already are to name column related settings/commands ("Grow Name .../Shrink Name ...")

Re: Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
Coding this will be a lot cleaner (and it will also look better) with column-wise horizontal scrolling (something you might know from Excel). So each notch on the horizontal scrollbar will make the next column left-align to the left margin of the list (= no half-columns at the left). It's basically the same strategy we've always had with vertical scrolling and lines (= no half-lines at the top).
How do you like that? Do you see any problems with it?

Re: Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
Frankly, in my opinion, it would be a step backwards in usability, because scrolling would result in a jumping motion that makes easier to lose track of the point you're staring at in the List.

Re: Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
If you scroll fast enough, it's as fluid as a movie.

Re: Horizontal scrolling with Name column fixed
Okay, I took that as a challenge and I am now sure that I have found a good, high-performance solution for it (keep the current smooth scrolling AND have a fixed Name column). It will take a few days to implement, but the result will be really cool.
Nevertheless, I think column-wise scrolling could be a useful option.
