Open folder via DnD on tab bar

Post by Marco »

Pretty much what the title says. Something that I often do in the web browser when I want to open a link as a new tab in a specific position among the other tabs available. Something that feels very natural once you're used to, and that I miss in XY. Don't know what can of worms might possibly explode...

Interesting. Never did that in a browser. Did not know about it. Nice trick. I'll check that for XY.

I did play a little and seems to be working fine - but let me play more
But, you have restricted the drop area to the sides of the tabbar - half appeal. Could you make so that even in between tabs is a valid droppable zone? I see that currently a tab is a drop/file move destination as a whole. Maybe internally it should get splitted into three bands, 5 px from the sides and the center. The center still behaves like it currently does, while the sides are "dead" and allow a folder to be dropped as a new tab...

I just tested this in .0043, do you think it would be good to display the little down arrow where the tab is going to open, like is shown when you move tabs?

Also noticed that you cannot easily move a folder to an iconized tab anymore, the pixels are all taken for opening a new tab.

I suspected that, that's why I thought 5 px were enough

I want to make this feature optional. Need some help for the checkbox caption:

Drop folders to add new tabs
Dropping folders adds new tabs
Add new tab by dropping folders
Allow to add a tab by dropping a folder
Drop folder to the tab bar to add tab
Add tabs via drag and drop on tab bar -> my current choice

Arrgh, not really good.

I like Marco's original topic:
Open folder via drag and drop on tab bar

But when using "Open" the new tab should actually be opened/selected. I could make it do that. But is it good? I don't think so. It feels wrong to leave the current tab after dragging from it.

I like your current naming choice more than Marco's
Also by default it should stay in the current tab because one may add several tabs this way.

Stay in the current tab by default

Would it be possible to open the new tab immediately when the shift key is hold and the drop happens at the right place?
We have the same behavior to open things in new tabs already (e.g. favorites)...
