This reply is mainly for INFO if you are curious on how xyplorer behaves for High DPI display with thumbs 16x16 and 32x32.

I overlaid the output from a program of mine on which creates 16x16 and 32x32 pixel images for both a picture (3 owls) and a "chessboard" (of alternate black/white down to the individual pixel level). Also shown is a scale (0 to 10mm) which is accurate to about 5%.

There is a alinement problem in that I would expect that the top of the thumb should line up with the top of the icon (irrespective of the size of the thumb).

It is interesting on how "different" the thumbs varies from my program output - HOWEVER at such low resolutions which is closer to the correct representation?

I see that the thumbs for the .mp4 file is very greatly "cropped" and translated when compared to what windows shows in the preview pane (which I think is identical to xyplorer preview).

Just curious myself re the method you use to create thumbs. Is aspect ratio 1.1 preserved? Is a "square cell" used to define ultimately where a thumb is placed? Is it intended to max zoom without cropping AND maintain 1:1 aspect ratio?

This was for INFO only as you may not have the time to fully investigate same.

OVERALL, a wonderful "piece of work" from you and greatly appreciated by me.

You seem to have ticked this:
Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Show film strip overlay on video thumbnails

Untick it. (Maybe I should automatically disable this at such small sizes...?)

Unticked Film Strip Overlay

16x16 now seems to look OK BUT 32x32 .mp4 is cropped/translated (unless I did/omitted something wrong)

That might be a problem that's stuck in the thumbnail cache.

1) While the thumbnails are showing, try this: View | Caches | Refresh Thumbnails

OR

2) Untick: Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Cache thumbnails on disk

Tried (only) first option - while thumbnails (32x32) are still showing - View>Caches>Refresh Thumbnails fixes problem.

(No adverse effect doing this with 16x16 thumbs either!)

I now also unticked Configuration>Preview>Thumbnails>Cache Thumbnails on disk for future runs.

For fun - I ticked Configuration>Preview>Thumbnails>Show filmstrip overlay on video thumbnails -

32x32 .mp4 thumbs with filmstrip LOOK OK to me
16x16 mp4 thumbs with filmstrip would need some work - e.g. film sprocket holes need to be much smaller and the image shown in the 16x16 is a "portion" of exact same size from the 32x32 (i.e. the 16x16 image ("subset") shown is not half the size of the 32x32

Thanks

Well, the cache usually works well. You can turn it on again. Makes things much faster.

Small sprockets? Well, probably better just to omit them for 16x16.
