Clipboard Editor(#216) improvement.

Post by eil »

1. Allow to select multiple lines via ctrl+/shift+ selection.
2. All live filters support Escape to erase typed symbols ESC to quit out of a filtered list by deleting the filter criteria, like it does in other live filters of XY = right now ESC closes the Clipboard Editor window.

Sorry but #2 doesn't sound natural at all to me, I would never expect ESC to erase anything and as for your example with life filters, ESC quits out of a filtered list by deleting the filter criteria, which is a completely different context IMHO.

No, we don't expect the same, I think closing the Edit Clipboard window on ESC is the right action.
It is not a filtered list.

It is not a filtered list.
then what's the point to have live filter there, if it's "not filtered list", and why ESC in main XY window's live filter doesn't close XY?!(it actually exactly makes a habit that ESC in live filter line is only about clearing filter or quiting focus from this line)

Okay, one of the cases where a picture would have helped - I've never had the need to filter that list so far.
When using the filter box at the bottom of the window I agree that I would also expect the first ESC to reset the filter and only the second one to then exit the list.

yep, that's how it is in List and that's how i'd wish it to be in Clipboard Editor.)

Sounds good. Next beta.

... or maybe not? :eh: Since the live filter is preserved between openings (within one session) it's useful to allow ESC to close the dialog without resetting the filter first. And to reset the filter there is also the standard key F3 (toggles the filter).

just to be sure, which one is good idea, Shift-selection or Live Filter clear?
the thing is it's really misleading that same element(Live filter) works differently in different places(ESC in List doesn't close anything).
expecting to save live-filter between opening's in Clipboard Editor is kinda strange as it's list constantly changes during work, while having Clipboard Editor filtered and suddenly closed, is most probably not smt user would wish for(while pushing ESC twice to clear and close window is quite natural).

I meant Live Filter clear. And I was thinking not only about Clipboard Editor but about all similar dialogs (dialogs with a list and a filter box).

But I just saw that only two lists actually remember the last filter pattern:
- Help | List All Commands...
- Configuration | Jump to Setting...

So my point ("live filter is preserved between openings (within one session)") is pretty weak, it's just an exceptional case.

So I guess, making ESC in the filter box work the same everywhere is a good idea. I will add it (with an option to tweak it off).

much more comfortable.
what about multi-selecting items? actually i'd wish to ask if that can happen some day for Clipboard Editor and InputSelect() results too, as they feel quite similar and could really benefit from selecting items massively.

OK, I was not even aware that bumping a post was possible. I now turned that off in the forum settings. It cannot be that a user can overwrite the original date of a post of the admin, come on! Crass forum bug.
