Branch view without empty branches

Post by LittleBiG »

Please create an option to show only the branches with search result in branch view. Test folder structure:

This would be a nice outcome visually, without clutters of the many "empty" folders in case of this ?*.txt /flat

Now the only possibility is showing either all folders or none.
Even more spectacular with this C:\Program Files\?*.exe /flat or your Portables folder. Or would be by supressing those empty ones.

I couldn't find a way to achieve this by scripting...

+1 this can be useful if implemented as a switch.

Might be an idea but I'm not sure how to design it. Setting? Switch? I use BV very rarely myself...

I was thinking about it. I don't think it fits as a switch, because switches are rather for the items to search. The three /flat... is for controlling the appearance of the files and/or folders, so this could be a fourth one, which I would call like /flatreduced (reduced by the empty folder leaves.)
So if somebody would like to create a quick launcher of their application in the Portable folder, the command could be simply : C:\Portables\?*.exe /flatreduced All the switches could work next to it as they are now.

Another /flat... suits the idea best. Just my 2cents: i'd propose for name /flatnoempty -better describes the effect.

Yes, that could work. But it's not totally easy to do. Maybe later.

First ?*.xml /flatnoempty didn't work properly, there were no folders, then I noticed that the Let folders pass all filters was switched off.

When I search for specific files, the branch view of them is really neat now. Thanks, you made my day!

Hmm, now that you mention it. Shouldn't Configuration | Find and Filter | Find Files & Branch View | Branch View | Let folders pass all filters be enabled by factory default?!

for Branch View seems to be logical.

I can agree too. Branch view without branches even if I combine it with finding files is weird. So maybe the example I showed should be give back the branches no matter how that setting is set...

I will change the factory default to ON. (did that in last beta already)

Not sure whether to go beyond that and just ignore it.
Why would anybody want to filter out the folders??? Why did I add that option? Hmmm... :eh:

the option itself may be useful for some scenarios, so let it be, just with ON by default.
