"Move" thumbnails along with pictures.

Post by eil »

XY already has real handy feature to copy tags along with files when they are being transferred. As i understand XY basically edits tags database adding new lines (on files copy) and editing existing lines(on files move). Yet as i understand thumbnail database is kinda similar, so..
It would be very handy if same could be done for pictures = if copied/moved pictures have thumbnails created, those will be automatically copied/edited("re-pointed") to show in new place without need to create them again.
Such feature will not only make workflow faster, as one will not need to wait for new creation, yet will make much less "pressure" on drive without all these "create thumbs>create new thumbs>delete orphans" constant operations.

Due to recent new features about thumbs, i remembered this my wish. But for my shame i can't really understand - does new portability feature of thumbs allow to move some/few images, without need to recreate thumbs in new place?(say simply re-point already created thumbs to new place)

If the thumbnails cache folder is a subfolder of the thumbnailed folder, yes, sure. You can move or copy the whole thing (folder along with cache folder) to wherever you like.

Shame, my wish was about individual moving files and redirecting already created centralized thumbs, so will wait for future and remind later.

OR this:

Because the Hover Box knows the status of all items – Why should we not have this posted on each image of the search that moved. MOVED and then the path under it D:\... the last say 10 letters of path. The drive at the front.

It could also be that items were deleted – this is the simple case DELETED will be the text and no path needed.

This is important to anyone that maintain a database. One clever search may result in a number of ‘moves’ and ‘deletions.’ I was first thinking that the ‘search’ items should update etc. This could be a problem to those of us that are multi-tasking. The above would be far clearer to everyone and those that try to debug things – I dare say.
I have attached the Configuration>Information>File Info & Hover Box – in case you have not had the time to get it to work with your setup. Or like to compare.

Same thing - this will be more intuitive IMHO
