first i didn't care 'cause didn't have trouble with no Apply button, but now i do care with buttons re-arranging. why making so drastic changes with moving Help too?(it definitely fits left side where it was)
i missed the time of question about re-arrange, and i see many programs(but not all !) use this illogical OK - Cancel - Apply, but imo it would be much more logical like:

Code: Select all

Apply(Apply current changes and let me do more) - OK(Approve all changes and close) - Cancel (Cancel all changes and close)
plus no harm for users who used to have old buttons arrange.

Well, I personally like the previous one (same as yours) better as well. That "Standard" does not make much sense to me. :)

The Help button is better suited for the left side where it was. So I'm for breaking the Windows standard and going with eil's button layout. I didn't say anything yesterday 'cause I figured I could get my old brain used to whatever you came up with, but I did think, why move the Help button.

I feel I am not entitled to any opinion on teh matter as a newbie (and worse: not even an actual user), but in case it helps:

I think the position of the current Help button - below the navigation pane - is misplaced.
To me it indicates that you get general help on configuration matters. Not the context sensitive help that it actually is.

I would put the help "button" on title row like this (very hasty mockup, just for explanation purposes):

Then the Jump ... button can take whole width of the navigation pane.

Personally, I don't care for the OK-Cancel-Apply order of the buttons. Just add the regular keyboard shortuts to them :D
( &Ok; just like the main menu).
EDIT: Skip that last part; bad idea, as those are already in use by the settings themself ...

context sensitive help button... yes, it would be more logical, but also more ugly. IMO it works well enough as it is.

Hey! Why does Apply button come first before OK button? I just accidentally clicked it. Many people are used to "OK - Cancel - Apply" order in Windows. You should not ignore them. Please don't say to use some kind of resource editor to change this :eh:

Simple: Most people are used to Cancel as the right-most button. This is deep muscular knowledge. Now "OK - Cancel - Apply" would be fatal. :)

I expected such an answer :) At first glance you are right, but in fact you are not. Cancel button always follows OK button. It does not necessarily have to be the rightmost button. Please don't ruin the Windows standards.
