That would be a radical design change. I prefer to keep it simple. If you color your tabs like the BC you know what you are doing... :)
(Touche. I don't like bevelled bar much though; I'm dropping this particular topic.)

I use a couple of applications that color or change folder icons. My favorite is FolderMagic and another is Rainbow Folders. Both are free. Because they change the folders in the system, they show up in XYplorer as colored tabs.

When I work in a hurry, it is easy it confuse the directories which looks the same. For example, you have 20 open tabs, and one of them is %Desktop%\Scripts while another is %UserProfile%\Backup\Scripts. You have open some script to edit it, and you think that this script is the one from the main directory. But actually, you have opened the script from the backup. Bad.

The colored tab is somewhat to solve this issue. You can assign the bright red color (rgb(255,0,0))to backup tab and it will prevent the confusion.

Another solution is the option to change the color of the background of the list. From white to something different, e.g. light red (rgb(255,240,240)).

Look up Favorites | Toggle Boxed Branch in the Help.
And tick Configuration | Colors and Styles | Styles | Mirror tree box color in list.

@Don Thanks, works. Also, Configuration > Colors > Boxed Branch = Set Your Color.

I'm kind of disappointed that you removed the tweak TabMatchSelectedWithCrumbPrio in beta v20.30.0012. I thought that was a nice effect being able to run the same color, or in my case white, from the list panel through the breadcrumb bar and up into the selected tab. That melding of the same color made it easy to quickly see the selected tab since the list panel, BC and selected tab were the same (without having to resort to bolding the selected tab see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20148&start=45#p169654 Sorry, but the border you inserted on the selected tab is pretty much useless when you use a normal white background for the BC and list (i.e., it really doesn't distinguish anything).

Isn't it more disturbing to lose the custom colors? And the problem you are describing is true for any tab, not just custom colored ones. The recent change only affects custom colored tabs.

Well, I like tab custom colors for sure. I'm only talking about being able to have the "selected" tab match the background of the BC and list panel, only when it is selected. When it's not selected, it's displayed with its assigned custom color (if any). Back when you did the original tweak, I thought a better approach would be to allow the user to select a color for the "selected" tab which as in my case would be white and different then the tab's custom color. That way it's not tied to matching the BC background.

Well, I'm also cleaning up from time to time, not only adding. My thought: When you take the time to individually color a tab, you certainly don't that colors disappear when that tab is selected. So I thought the tweak can go.

When you have problems spotting the selected tab there might be other solutions, apart from color works...

Oh well, I suppose we can disagree and that's alright. I think yes, you can color your tabs to your liking, but at the same time it's also nice to be able to distinguish the selected tab in the color of choice. In my case I like to having that color match what I have for a background in the list and BC. It serves as a quick simply indicator of where you're at since the tab color is matching the list and BC.
