change selection color for XYplorer Classic Style

Post by kileytoo »

In Styles > Selections, when I choose XYplorer Classic Style, I wish there was a way to change the color from blue to a different one. I looked in the Color section but couldn't find an entry for this.

If it is actually missing, maybe you could add it in the Color > Other section... There is one free slot just right below Selection Box

This is a systemwide selection color. I can control it only in Tree, List, and Catalog, but not in the Address Bar or any of the edit boxes. I think this would look strange and confusing if you had two different selection colors.

Can't you change it somewhere in the Windows settings?

Oh, I hadn't thought of that... and I agree that it is best to leave it as it is everywhere.

My wish was specific to lists in thumbnails view, where it becomes a frame around the image (rather than a background color for selected text). If you use large thumbnails, and the images are not square, the selection color can take up as much space as the thumb itself, and that's where you may wish to use a custom color...

But I would be happy with the default selection color if the selection frame was just a thin border, with any extra space between it and the actual thumb filled with the list background color (transparent, so to speak) or a custom color... just a thought!

I tried it but I did not like the results.

You should switch to Windows themes style.

Thanks for trying it!
I tried going back to Windows themes style but I very much prefer the XYplorer classic style, it looks cleaner and works better for me when selecting files, I just wish I could change the color. I haven't looked into changing it from the Windows color dialog because I use two different XYplorer color schemes, black background for portable installations and white for standard, which would require two different selection colors, and that means finding a way to switch between them, either with registry files or a script.
What about adding an option to change the selection color only for thumbnails? Not sure if it should be dependent on selecting XYplorer classic style...

I don't know, I think it would be bloat. Sorry, but looks like it's just you asking for it...

It's a nice break from the old white-on-blue:

Nothing against robots but they don't need to answer postings for indexing.
