gallery pre-floating preview

I'm fiddling around with a little script which thumbs images while I make some coffee.
But I'm not satisfied: the current geeky thumbs gallery* should be elevated to the GUI: what about a thumbs gallery mode for floating preview, pressing [enter] popping the current floating preview for that selected item?

Scripted solutions (yet I don't tried Ken's script**) will always be confined by a pane's borders, which in turn depend on XY sizing along with other areas (tree, buttons ribbon, addy bar) and I think that current features allow an easy building of such a feature.
