Being new to Custom copy, I would like to add my 2cents observations:

The interface presents 4 buttons and a selector. Overwrite and Skip buttons have clear functions and raise no questions, but the funcions of OK/Cancel buttons are not that clear inasmuch as they operate at a different level:

The Ok button is designed to execute what is selected in the options list, but then it should be next to the selection and labelled 'Excute Selected action' (and dismiss the tooltip).

The 'Cancel' button is relevant to the Copy itself, in which case it should be labelled 'Cancel Copy' to make things clear.

The placement of the buttons should be linked to their functions : it would be logical to have 'Overwrite' 'Skip' and Selector + 'Execute Selected' aligned vertically, to show they all target the collision in question, while 'Cancel' should remain where it is now (at the bottom Right corner) to show it is linked to a different level of action.

Thanks, but IMO the current interface is more standard (= less scary) and intuitive enough. A perfect UI for everybody is not possible, there is always a little learning involved.

Just for info: FileZilla has a very nice interface for collision.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

I would like to see an option for "Do this also for the next collisions" to be checked by default. An alternative could be an additional checkbox, "Always do it this way".

Good idea.

I'm wondering how to call the checkbox. What about "Default to repeat action on collisions"?

Would try to use the same wording that the user will see with the main feature. If the user sees, "Do this also for the next collisions", then the option for the default should include the same words if possible.

For this default feature, would probably allow the user to select one of three options:
  1. Checked
  2. Unchecked
  3. Use the last value
Perhaps it is easiest for the user if you provide this feature directly in the copy/move dialog window, as well as a duplicate of the setting in the main configuration dialog. If the user changes the setting in one place, it will automatically be updated in the other place (i.e., reflect only a single configuration setting).

Would also consider how to handle the similar kind of issue when directories are copied ("Merge folders" dialog). Actually, I find it annoying to see both of those dialogs-- one for files and a separate one for directories-- whenever I am copying a directory that contains both files and subdirectories. In those instances, I recommend presenting just one dialog instead of two, because users are unlikely to answer the questions differently during a single copy/move operation.

Same action on collisions?

Yes. :)

I'll go for 2-way, Checked or Unchecked (it's only for the initial state, "Use the last value" will be automatic within each job).

IMO it's good that the Merge prompt looks different. It's a different case, and with usually much heavier consequences.

Still find it hard to come up with something better than "Default to repeat action on collisions".

Sounds great! Your wording looks OK to me, too.

Thank you!

Also add a direct button "Overwrite all" while copying bcoz in many cases one needs it.

The above is useful when, say for e.g i have copied some files to a target and forget after few days what i have copied then
Overwrite all will be useful
